Hi,
I'm getting the following error message.
Exception: QuickTime reference exports cannot be performed on clips linked via AMA or on sequences containing media linked via AMA
How do I fix this?
Thanks.
I think you can do a mixdown or consolidate of media to get around this. I would try the mixdown first.
Hm, I'll give it a shot. Though this worked fine in the previous version of MC.
Not sure if it worked in the past or not, I always do a consolidate prior to exporting or going out to tape.
What type of media is this? If it's Long GOP, you can't export a QT ref. It's not supported in QT.

It is P2 media. I've been working with P2 media for a while, and I have always been able to export a QT Ref from Avid, but I just upgraded to MC 4 and I suddenly get this error message.
...if so, this is an undesirable development.

I got into the same situation. It seems that if you don't consolidate all your source clips, you won't be able to export QT references... evev if they are on the same drive... so the new P2 workflow would be as follows (it seems to be the same as before, only the names have changed!):
-Copy your P2 cards in folders on your drive
-Link to your P2 card or folder with AMA
-consolidate all the clips, making sure you deselect "skip media files already on the target drive", and select "Relink master clips to media on the target drive".
You can then delete all those "yellow" clips, and you'll then be able to work normally with your clips.
If anyone found an easier way of doing this please share!
The smoothest work around we use for EX XDCAM (and I assume its the same as other long GOP stuff) is as follows
Edit away till yor heart is content from AMA folders
When you are ready to export:
Do an Audio and Video mix down and use a NEW sequence to export these newly created streams to QT ref. It all works well assuming you are not using long GOP in the mix down codec options.
Thats it! Works a treat.
What should be able to be done in my opinion is use the original sequence and just turn off the tracks that contain the media that MC and QTime have the problems with and only leave the mix down Video and Audio turned on. this would allow a tidy consolidate later on when definately complete. This worked early in 3.5, but option desappeared in 3.5 patches somewhere and has not returned with V4 either. Hopefully it will come back sometime soon.
