    DNxHD Codec Download broken

Hi, a while ago I found a thread regarding the download page of the DNxHD codec. Now I searched for over half an hour and could not find it anymore. So please excuse if the question is raised twice:

I need the DNxHD codec under MacOS. I found the following link on avid.com

    http://www.avid.com/cgi/kbase-redir.aspx?p_faqid=77958

Which states: "Download Avid DNxHD Quicktime codec". But when I follow it, the upcoming site is (nearly) empty. There is text on it: Avid QuickTime Codecs LE 2.0[263545]" but that is no link. Then I am asked (in German) "How would you rate this site". Well that is not important here, however you can imagine the answer.

In the thread I found a while ago, there were some who got the correct page and some who did not. There was some guesswork going on about which browser to choose, what OS and what language.

However I tried from a Mac OSX with Safari and Firefox, from a PC Vista 64 with IE and Firefox, I switched languages (even Japanese). Each time a got the empty page.

Please make the download available again. I am totally at a loss here.

    Kind regards,

    Andreas

    Re: DNxHD Codec Download broken

Hello Job, thank you for the answer. The links you stated lead to the following page:

Here I do not see any .zip files. Therefore I click on the "Quicktime HD Codec is downloadable free of charge...". The page i get is:

Here I cannot find any .zip files neither. Or do I miss them somehow? Are these pages as they should be shown in the browser?

    Kind regards,

    Andreas

You are right, when on avid.com/dnxhd, you have to click "Download DNxHD QT Codec" at the right side of the screen. Then it should take you to the Knowledge Base link for the codecs.

That you don't see the right text might have to do with the browser language settings. There appears to be something wrong with that in the Knowledge Base. For me, tbe pages work. For now, can you use this link?

Thank you very much. I got the "PC_AvidCodecsLE_2.0.zip". There is an .exe within. Do you have any recommendation how I could use that under MacOSX? The included .doc states that I have to use WinXP.

    Re: DNxHD Codec Download broken

Again, thank you very much. That is a huge step forward. I could install the package. I checked the export from Premiere CS4. There the Avid codecs are now listed:

However when I choose DNxHD and open the "Format Options" dialogue, the popup window is cut off and cannot be resized (nor can it be moved):

Ironically this is only the case for the DNxHD. The other Avid codecs have correct dialogues. I guess that is Murphy. Alas, I do not know how much is cut of. Does anyone know a workaround?

And another related question: When I modify the settings in "Basic Settings" from the Premiere exporter that are visible in the picture above - how do they interact with the settings in the DNxHD dialogue?

    Thanks again,

    Andreas

Same thing happens to me when I try in Premiere CS3 on Windows. That said, you're not missing much AFAIK. You need to click the selection dropdown box that is mostly hidden at the bottom of the screen. There you choose the DNxHD compression type you need to use. In your case, apparently that would be one of the flavors in the 1080p/25 section.

Sorry, I may have misread. Can you not see the contents of the drop-down menu? On my PC version, the list does pop up beyond the edges of the export dialogue box.

I tried the same in After Effects, and it does seem to work correctly there (different type of export dialogue box). So I'm guessing it's a Premiere issue.

As for the settings in Premiere, I'm pretty sure that they determine whatever it is that you are sending into the encoder.

    Re: DNxHD Codec Download broken

Hi Job, meanwhile I tested on Mac in Premiere and After Effects, as well as on my Windows PC at home. You are right, the dialogue in After Effects is quite different and displayed correctly. But even under Premiere I get the drop-down menu that you mentioned, by clicking on the last line of pixels in the dialogue Wink

Summarized: The codecs work perfectly, the dialogue partially and the accompanying web page hardly. Once more, the encoding in AE outdoes its brother in premiere.

Thank you very much for your help and the files!

    Best wishes,

    Andreas
