...but when I try opening it I get an error that says...
"Your video card either does not support playback or it needs more memory. Try lowering the screen size or bit depth. For now playback will only display the first frame on the desktop."
And then as it continues to load, it locks up when it says "Initializing Audio" at the bottom of the screen.
I'm an editor, not a technician. But, am I safe to assume there is something wrong with my video card (NVIDIA Quadro)?
Can someone help me?

BTW, "download" and "Launch" are two very distinctly different things.
You download something from the internet - When you click on an application's icon, you are launching it. Your subject reads as if you're attempting to download the installer from the internet.

Thanks for the help... I do appreciate it. I'm getting more and more "technical" in regards to all this, so any help is appreciate.
Now, I have most of my issues resolved except for when I launch Xpress Pro 5.8.1 it "hangs" or "freezes" when it gets to Initializing Audio. Anything to help get past this. I've done all I can think of.
Again, thanks for the help so far.

I got the video card issue resolved, but my software still "hangs" when I launch. It hangs when it says at the bottom of the launch screen 'initializing audio.' Any suggestions on what to do?
Has anyone find a solution to the audio initialization freeze? I have the same issue.

it depends on the soundcard you use. Sometimes the connection of a USB webcam or such prevents Avid from starting as those devices tend to take over the soundcard options.
Drop a line here and let me know what soundcard you have... we might be able to go around it.
