SW Licensing and the Dongle
Much like with v3.5/v7.5, new unit purchases of Avid Media Composer v4.0, Avid Symphony v4.0 and Avid NewsCutter v8.0 will use software licensing. Existing customers with a dongle can continue to use their dongle, and if you do so, you should download and install v4.0.2/v8.0.2.
New – 30 day Media Composer Trial
With the release of Avid Media Composer v4.0, we have introduced a trial version of the editor that activates for 30 days at no charge. Customers can obtain the Avid Media Composer Trial software from the avid.com home page - under “featured resources” once live. Once downloaded, the user will be asked several questions and one of these is whether they would like to use the editor as a trial version. If they select this option, they must register the product to activate the 30 day period. After the 30 day period has expired, customers may purchase the complete Avid Media Composer product from the Avid.com webstore as a software download only or as a physical shipping kit with manuals and third-party applications, or they can uninstall the software.
Please note: Customers that already have Media Composer and are using a dongle should make sure they download v4.0.2 as this resolves the Trial Software Activation issue. Failure to do so may deactivate their dongle.

Hi Todd,
When upgrading from MC 3.5.4 to MC 4.0 will I lose functionality of current Boris, Sapphire, Magic Bullet, etc. filters?
Hello, what is with Windows 7? Is AVID Media Composer 4 compatible with Windows 7?
THX for answers, Daniel San

Hi Daniel San,
A) This is the Mac Media Composer forum.
B) Windows 7 will be supported, they're working on it, don't expect any news soon.

duckyou: Hi Todd, When upgrading from MC 3.5.4 to MC 4.0 will I lose functionality of current Boris, Sapphire, Magic Bullet, etc. filters?
Hi Duck,
My Saphire and Boris plugs all came over perfectly. Haven't tried Magic bullet yet but, in general, AVX2 plugs should all still work.
To follow up on BLKDOGs comment Duck... my NewBlue FX stopped working in BETA. However, NewBlue tweaked things on their end, and all is well with the world again. Sapphire had no issue for me either.

Sounds great. Thanks!
Any Avid Media Composer version to Avid Media Composer v4.0 Upgrade (Physical Shipping Kit with Production Suite) - $495 US MSRP
Does this mean that if i have an older Meridian Media Composer Dongle, that i could upgrade to AMC 4.0 for $495
I'm a little confused about Snow Leopard support. In the support and training documentation about "How to obtain MC v4.0 at this link: http://www.avid.com/support/downloadcenter/upgradeOptions.asp
It says that the media composer software is not supported on Mac OS 10.6, but the Media Composer Mojo DX (which is what I have) is. Does that mean if you have a Mojo DX you can run Snow Leopard with Media Composer v4.0.2? Or does that mean that the Mojo DX hardware can be run on 10.6, but not the software?
Thanks for your time,
Yusef
That's a misprint Yusef. Snow leopard is not yet supported.
Thanks for clarifying BLKDOG!
Y.
I've just ordered the academic version of Avid Media Composer 4. Can I buy the downloadable version of the Avid Media Composer Production Suite, or is that just for full versions of Media Composer?
Yes, you can buy the third party apps and use them with the academic version.
BLKDOG: Production Suite The Avid Production Suite includes: · Boris Continuum Complete v6 (Mac and PC) – Comprehensive library of customizable video filters and transitions · Avid FX v6 (Mac and PC) – 2D & 3D compositing, titles, animation and effects · Sorenson Squeeze v5 (Mac and PC) – Multimedia export with customizable compression templates · Avid DVD by Sonic v6.1 (PC only) – Industry leading DVD and Blu-ray authoring · SmartSound Sonicfire Pro v5 (Mac and PC) – music creation software
· Avid FX v6 (Mac and PC) – 2D & 3D compositing, titles, animation and effects
BLKDOG,
How do I purchase the new Avid Production Suite -- as this page at the Avid store lists many wrong versions of those applications?
Thanks for your assistance.
Edit: Looks like the site was just updated -- now Avid FX and Sonic are the only wrong versions
