Hello
I am busy entering my details in the Avid store (not sure why the European / SA site charging Euros is 30 USD more than the USA site) but I wanted to check the procsess before completing the transaction:
I am asked to enter my credit card details before I am asked to validate owenrship of MC3.5.
So my question is - how and when does the verification of ownership of 3.5 take place?
And is there a check to stop someone buying a 3.5 upgrade when they are not registered for 3.5?
I have the 3.5 download and am entitled to it, but I have not yet installed it or run it etc.
Thanks
Neil
Hi,
A BIG Thanks Marianna,
The problem has been sorted and have downloaded MC.
Best regards
Radman

I called Avid today and was told that the education customer upgrade information would be sent out by e-mail after 4.0 is released. Correct me if I'm wrong, but, hasn't it already been released?

Hi Charles,
the_dark:Correct me if I'm wrong, but, hasn't it already been released?
Pretty sure it has, or all these posts have been terribly premature (haha). Send Marianna Montague an email and she'll help you get in touch with the right people who can get it figured out.
adios,Carl

Hello Marianna
Looking at the Online store I see that the geographic areas are essentially split into 2 currency regions - USD or Euro - with Europe and Africa being charged in Euros whilst the other regions (The Americas, Asia Pacific, Middle East etc) are charged in US Dollars.
My issue is that the Euro price - 230 Euros equates to $340 - Nearly $50 more than the rest of the world pays.
Without wanting to start a regional conflict or geographical debate on the general levels of realtive wealth and relative poverty, I would really like to know why we in Africa (the worlds poorest and most in need of aid continent ) have to pay the premium price in Euros.
We are not in Europe and we dont really like being thought of as being in Europe, and this is especially true if it just happens to costs us $50 more to be considered a part of Europe.
Throughout the entire continent of Africa we have constantly demonstrated a great regard and affinity for the good old Yankee Green Back and really not much regard for the snooty and snobbish Euro - in fact we would probably not even recognise a Euro if we were given one by a Nigerian scamster.
But the Dollar? - Well lets just say you can buy yourself a small landlocked African country with the right amount of Dollars.
I implore you - Please dont betray our dedicated loyalty to the dollar by making us pay in Euros.
If Asia, the Pacific Rim and the Middle East can be a part of the dollar denominated world, please spare us poor African cousins a thought and remove us from the evil grip of the premium priced Euro.
Or perhaps Avid can make a special concession to Obama's Dad's continent?
Alternatively; what would be the consequences if I posted my address as Argentina and bought MC4 upgrade in dollars from the America's store?
Argentina / Africa if you say them quickly enough they even sound the same -no harm done is there?
Yours in the (African) Dollar
ps: I really have no problem if you do want to continue charging Europe a few USD extra - in Africa we think all Europeans are rich.
Hi Neil, with the last few MC's releases there's always been an unfair price mismatch between US and Europe, Avid has always had it alligned after customers complained, and, to be fair, even reimbursed overcharged customers (including myself) who got the software before the price reallignment; I suggest You hold on for a few days to see if the price goes down, as I understand it MC 4 has been released earlier than scheduled, and the Avid web shop might have been caught not ready for the battle. By the way, being in the mediterranean I consider myself a northern african rather than a southern european, but still I'm closer to Europe than You are, who ever told You that the people up there are so rich? I happen to know that there's a worldwide crisis, don't You know that too?
peace luca
Thanks for the feedback Luca - besides from the general issue of the Euro price being (currently) somewhat more expensive than the Dollar price, my note was generally tongue in cheek, so please don't take it to heart if I do call you rich! (No insult intended)
Okay - I am not moaning about the price I have already committed to ordering but for general interest I do wonder why there is not a special price option for a 3.5 specific upgrade to a 4.0 box set (including Productivity suite) seems like an anomaly - or am I missing something?
I agree - I would have thought that an owner of MC 3.5 would get a better deal on the combination of upgrade and productivity package than, say, someone upgrading from MC 2.7 - quite disappointing.
Steve
Neil, not taking it badly, I could tell You were kind of humorous, it's just that being closer to europe than You are I wanted to tell You that things are not that shiny around here too.
AndrewAction: I would like to thank Marianna and company for the solidly and persistently work they have done behind the scenes for those of us wanting to keep the Dongle as well as those who have looked for an Avid upgrade pricing policy that reflected the upgrades existing clients have paid for. This Releases has shown a welcome back down over the Dongle policy. It also shows that those who paid for the 3.5 upgrade get a reasonable price break over those that did not. A very welcome change in direction from Avid in my opinion. Not even any regrets that personally the only paid upgrade in the last 10 years I did not pay for was the 3.1 to 3.5 .

hi Charles....
The official launch of 4.0.x/8.0.x including Education is September 30th. While the support downlaod area for valid support customers and the web store are completed, there are back end processes that are in play to ensure the site we launch at that time, can handle student upgrades over that 4 year period.
The biggest task is the registration..... Many dont register so let me say this now..... if you bought a educational student product and fall into the window to receive an upgrade to 4.0, then register your product now at www.avid.com/register. You will be ready to rock and roll when the site goes live later this month.
Questions, ping me directly.
