Hi there,
i am trying to export a HDV Sequence - 44mins of duration.
Just video with the h.264 codec set to best quality.
It renders for about eight (8) EIGHT hours by now
and the render time says it will take approx. 17 hours + !!! to complete the job
I know my Mac is neither the fastest nor the newest. But 17 Hrs seems to me to be a very long time.
What do you think?
This is why HDV is tough to work in. There aren't any "real" frames, so you are making them, in effect.
When possible, bring your HDV in as something else or transcode the footage.
Google "i frames" and you'll get a better idea of what's going on.
For now, maybe try making a ref movie and then using another program to make the h.264, not a sure thing, but might be faster. Also, obviously, all your effects should be rendered before you start an export.
Don't trust the internet...
Hi Cowboy,
thank you for your response.
I´m aware of this little i-frames thingy (annoying like always)
I was just curious about the time it´ll take to for outputting the file.
regards
btw and just for info: render time has now dropped to 10 Hrs.
HDV is a good chance to say, "The cheapest man pays the most."
I hope you're charging by the hour.
I do a video mixdown to DNxHD, then export to something else. Maybe do a QT Reference export, so that you can transcode in the background with another app (like Sorenson) while you continue to edit in MC.
FSD:btw and just for info: render time has now dropped to 10 Hrs.
A mixdown to an Avid DNxHD codec before the encoding should save you a heap of time. I also find that H264 is a nice pictures, relatively very slow encode format to work with.
Thanks for the continued dongle support
Also make sure you did not select a multipass option for the H.264 export.
