Can anyone offer any suggestions... I am trying to capture from a JVC BR-HD50 deck using rs-422. When I auto configure etc Avid does not recognise the deck. I have a Sony HVR M25U which works through the Convergent Systems box & the RS-422 works fine through this & also on my standard Sony UVW-1800. I have the setting "on" in the menu for 9 pin control, does anyone have any experience with this JVC deck, or offer any explanations? 

Please tell us what specific platform and MC version you're running. Have you checked your "deck configuration" profile in your user settings? Do you have the channel configured correctly, depending on whether you're using analog inputs or firewire?

I'm sorry... I'm using Avid Symphony vers 5.5.5 (Meridien) with a H/P workstation XW-8000. I'm using the standard RS-422 cable (9 pin) not firewire. I have checked the deck configuration & everything appears to be correct.

Have you gone to manually configure the deck to a JVC deck?  I am on a MC soft this morning and it has a JVC BR-50U PAL template available.

Avid often does not automatically find a deck and uses generic. Tradditionally Sony tends to work with almost any template and JVC's are FAR more fussy (in my experience)

Seeing that you are on a Meridian you may need to try adding a template. They are simple text files so if you email me I can send you a zipped one that may or may not work with your older system.

JUst to clarify, are you using a Rosetta Stone (or comparable device) to convert the computer RS-232 to RS-422?

Randy is right, the Rosetta Stone is required on Meridien systems.  Try another JVC deck template or generic deck template.  Also check the deck to see if there is a serial port setting that needs to be set.

I have tried several templates, and several of the ones you sent to me Andrew, but to no avail. I cannot get deck control or T/C from this deck! Thanks for trying, maybe the system is too old for those deck templates? Because I rented the deck, I had to just bring everything in at 2:1 with no T/C.
