    VISTA BUSINESS 64 SP2

    Hi,

MS just released VISTA BUSINESS Service Pack 2 and (old habits die hard) I updated. Rule of thumb should be don't update if everything is working? Right?

So far, so good, but I thought I would start this thread to see if anyone is having problems with the update. Thanks. I have Avid MC 3.0 btw.

    Re: VISTA BUSINESS 64 SP2

SP2 for Vista 64 Ultimate was released quite some time ago and we had a few posts regarding the 'gotchas' Microsoft posted, the most notable of which was that SP2 could screw up your audio driver.

Glad you're still up and running...

    Thanks,

I am running Vista Business 64, I am pretty sure that would be a different service pack than Ultimate, but nevertheless I think I should uninstall the new SP2 just to be safe.

    Thanks again.

I"m not suggesting that you uninstall SP2. I'm running MC 3.5.4.3 under Vista Ultimate 64 with SP2 and have had no problems whatsoever - All I was suggesting is that some will have problems (which may require updated audio drivers to solve). If SP2 is working for you then you should be OK. I guess it comes down to whether or not you're willing to experiment a little. If this is your bread and butter machine - well....

    Re: VISTA BUSINESS 64 SP2

Again, thanks for the advise. You have hit the nail on the proverbial head, it's a bread and butter machine and I hate testing for bugs. This machine was built to run Avid and so I wanted to have all hardware and software of the supported flavor. I overlooked a couple of things so I am rolling back my version of Quicktime and going for the Soundblaster sound card instead of the onboard. Yeah, it would probably work okay, but I spent the money to avoid as many headaches as possible. Editing has too many built in anxieties to tempt fate and as has been said many times in these forums, "Avid is picky when it comes to PC."

    Happy cutting.
