One of my regular programs is an hour long magazine format type thing. I never know which segments are going to be aired in the current edition, so I pre-edit the segments in their own sequences, and assemble the chosen ones in the final running order after that decision has been made. A standard segment has 5 video and 6 audio tracks. Here's the deal. Sometimes, when I load a pre-edit into the source window, the tracks have shifted- instead of acending video tracks V1 V2 V3...they will shift randomly to V1, V4, V3, V5, V2 (example). Same thing for audio tracks. Sometimes it does this little dance, sometimes not. I am not clever enough to spot a pattern as to when it does it and when it doesn't. It's not a big deal, as long as I rearrange the tracks into the proper order before I make the insert, all is well. It has been doing this for years. I just have a long enough render going at the moment to have time to ask if anyone else has seen this, or if I am merely the vistim of digital poltergeists. Do you have Auto-Patching enabled?

Auto Patching, yes. Auto Monitoring, no.
Try turning off the Auto-Patching and see if that prevents it. Auto-Patching may be getting confused because you have more tracks available than what you have to Patch in.
I will give that a shot and see what bleeds. Thanks.
And do remeber there's a menu function called "Restore Default Patch".
I dont know Express but using Media composer, in the Special drop down menu there is a command called "Restore Default Patch." Clicking this with the source window active will patch V1 to V1 etc.
I have it mapped to a button on the source window for exactly the reason that you posted.
