Bought a slighlty older Compser, (2.7.x something, not sure the exact version, but it.s 2.7) running on an HP workstation with an SD adrenaline. Just installed the latest updates to windows, and now the thing freezes on startup when the audio initializes. Tried to do a rollback, but the system didn't have any restore points (grrrrrrrr)
I should have left the damned thing alone, MC was working fine before the updates. But you know how it is, a guy figures he should update the system.
Suggestions?
Aren´t the windows updates able to uninstall from the control panel, I believe they are, search and tell what you find
edited. and I think that we heva little pinned helpthread just above this one telling users not to autoupdate, there might be some tips in that thread how to avoid it in the future

give us the iso files back in Avid Dvd please, no gi files for me
Maybe a manual uninstall of IE8 and roll-back to IE7 might do the trick. [LINK]

[EDIT: Tomas was faster... and yes, you can hide and show windows updates in the "Add/Remove Programs" window!]
did you search the forum for the issue? there have been tons of posts on this over the years. here are a couple of good ones (i found while searching for "freezes on initializing audio"). one of them deals with older versions of MC2.x

Or, maybe the pinned thread should just say, do not update at all, as the old tale, "if it ain´t broke, don´t fix it"
I also come to think of another, " curiousity killed the cat " or, was that a little mean perhaps, hope noone gets hirt
Yup, it was IE8, which is to bad, because so far I am quite enjoying my IE8 experience. No biggie though, it's just a browser ...
Ironically enough, I have an older, smaller XPress system on my other, smaller, non-HP home-built machine, upgraded to IE8 on that thing first, with not so much as a hiccup. I think that's what burned me, after updating XP to the latest and greatest, I was expecting the "better" system to handle the upgrades just as well,... Go figure. Everything seems cool now.
