working with network drives and avid

    hello,

i have a raid box on a network drive for video storage and recently switched from pc to a mac.

i can see the files when viewing in my mac os and i can see them when i open up projects in avid, but when i open the files all of them are off-line?

any ideas of putting them on-line?

    thanks,

    steven

We don't support media on networked drives Stephen. There's really no way to index the media on a drive that is not connected directly unless it's Unity or ISIS.

When you use editshare you have to type in Alldrives into the console in avid (I'm not sure about where the capitals go) and you will get a comment saying all drives enabled; try this on your mac- it may work

Re: working with network drives and avid

I've actually made this work quite well.  Typing "alldrives" in the console will allow the Avid to use networked drives as media drives.  Here's the problem:  only one system can write the database files at a time, therefore, for this to work, only one system can have read/write access to the drives, any other system can only have read access.  You will also have to do all of your rendering to local drives and project saving to local drives.

For a lot of people this is a headache, but in my situation where I have an Assist who needs to digitize and an Editor who doesn't, it works well has a poor man's unity.

    Best of luck.
