Hello,
I am new to the AVID community and trying to work with AMC 3.0. When starting up for the first time I received a lot of messages. All of them have been solved, BUT one persists preventing the program to open:
Exeption: Cannot initialize audio hardware.
And then the program closes.
It is an exeption that has been mentioned on this forum more then once. I followed the advise of installing the newest audio driver, but the issue remains.
I have a P5Q MB with onboard sound that works well with any other program, Nvidia Quadro FX580 VGA, 4 Gb RAM, quad core CPU, 4 HDD (500, 750, 750, 1000 GB)
I was wondering what you think about this.
Thanks,
Rob
Hi Rob,
Welcome to the forum! This issue is usually caused by Realtek onboard audio, so I'd suggest a search for "realtek" and try some of the suggestions there.
good luck,Carl

Just plug a mic (or a headphone) in the mic jack of your PC.
Then after MC will see it and start, don't use it again.

Tried the mic tric, but didn't work.
I recently installed XP professional SP3, but I can't see what version of IE it has.
Also tried installing IE 7, but didn't solve the problem.
Before I was already updating the Realtek drivers. I have a P5Q MB with onboar audio. That neither changed the issue.
Any more suggestions?
butterfly:Before I was already updating the Realtek drivers.
I'm not sure what you mean. Did the problem start after you updated your Realtek drivers?
No, I mean I has the audio initialization error and tried to fix it by:
-updating the realtek driver
-installing IE 7, because some mentioned IE 8 to cause problems
-the mic tric, which was another suggestion
And nothing solved the issue.
Hi,
butterfly:And nothing solved the issue.
On the "realtek" search results there should be some other suggestions like changing Windows mixer settings and BIOS settings and stuff like that. Have you seen/tried those yet?
Carl,
Thanks for your suggestions, but I don't see what else I can try then update drivers. I can't find anything about Window mixer settings or BIOS settings.

hello,
Dont just install IE7. Uninstall IE 8 from your computer ( If you had it in your sys to begin with ) from your Control panel/ add or remove programs. You may be leaving core conflicting software parts of IE8 in your PC by installing version 7 over 8. By uninstalling 8 your PC reverts to version 7 on its own.
Then of course you need to deny your auto updates when your sys wants to reinstall version8.
Hope you find your fix to this problem.
To be honest I don't know what version of IE came with XP Pro SP3. It is also not listed in the add/remove list. That's why I just downloaded and installed IE 7, which is now listed in the add/remove list from the Controp Panel.
So how can I uninstall the version (and find out what version) that came with the OS?
IE 7 comes together with XP SP3.
You cannot find it in the add remove list, it is situated into windows components, you checkmark or uncheck the apps that you want to use or not when you are in that menu tree.
You seem to have got lost in the install and update jungle, I recommend you to do a clean install of your os and then reinstall your apps again, as you already are using the SP3 install disc, be sure to have windows update disabled this time and don´t turn it on.
I have clean installed XP Pro SP3 5 days ago. Updates have never been enabled. I might be lost in the install and update jungle, but do not want to get lost in the clean start vicious circle too. I've been through this with CS3 a hundred times the last months. I finally made a hard decision to switch to AVID, hoping to avoid this.
Is there really no solution for this. Reading all the threads about this Audio Initialization Error, it occurs already for years. Has there not been a clear fix?
The last thing I tried (after the fixes I tried already) was changing the BIOS to AC,97. And in the Realtek Manager I changed mixer in and out to "enable multistreaming". But from this list I could not do 5, because it doesn't show stereo and surround.
1) In BIOS settings, change front audio to AC97.2) Download latest drivers from Realtek.3) In Realtek control panel go to mixer-out and click the advanced settings icon: check "enable multistreaming" or something.4) Do the same for mixer-in.5) Go to control panel>sounds and audio devices>audio You will notice that you have now two sound cards: one surround and one stereo (front panel). Change to the stereo one for both input and output.6) After Avid starts normally, change mixer settings>use windows mixer.
If I could get some guarentee that buying a sound card (which one?) would solve the issue surely, I'ld buy one immediately.
