Okay, i'm not sure this is the correct place to post this, and sorry for posting two topics so close together, but i thought they were pretty different.
Basically my problem is that whatever audio i record, i get the tape whirr.
This is even when i plug two microphones into the camera via the XLR's, or even audio feeds via the aux's on the desk. Audio is my area of 'expertise' so i'm pretty sure if it was an audio problem per-se i'd be able to solve it. I'm wondering if the circuitary in the camera means that when something is running through the pre-amps it picks up the signal of the mini DV tape working?
The problem is such that it means i have to have background music on EVERYTHING or export my audio so i can process it extensively and use lots of EQ and various plugins to get rid of it. Obviously, this is far from ideal. Is there a fix for this? should i send a line signal into the camera, i quite like the fact that it has phantom power and built in pre's, but obviously, the audio is not nice with the tape whirr, so i'm considering buying an external field recorder, which then throws up the thorny issue of sync. So anyone with any experience of syncing an audio recorder to a camera, that'll help, and anyone had a similar problem, please let me know. If i just have to record the audio relatively hot to get around it, any help much appriciated.
Thanks,
Chris.
Mods: please move this if it's in the wrong place.
You should not have tape whirr on the DVX100b. I have a DVX100 and it's very clean.
How do you record? What are you recording?
Be sure to have selected Input 1 and 2 on both channels instead of internal L R.
And you can also try to post on DVXuser.com for more info about your camera.

I'll post on DVX user thanks.
I am generally using 1 or 2 mics for example we did a 'big brother diary room' type thing, used wired lavaliers for the 'big brother' voice and for the interviewee. Both connected to the camera. Settings were:
On the front, Input 1 and 2 MIC (not line) CH1 select Input 1 CH2 select input 2. Can't remeber if i needed phantom on those mics or not, i think i did.
I've also had the problem using a shotgun mic, with the other channel turned off, or on, same problem.
ALSO, when i've taken a vocal mix from a stage show in channel one and a music mix into input two. Its on everything, if recording levels are hot enough, you can't pick it out, but i can't moniter them all the time since i often have to do live sound and lighting at the same time. (filming becomes low on the priority list). The problem still remains though even with hotter levels, meaning i have to cut out all the silence, making it sound un-natural or EQ it out...just a pain.
