So I just got this camera and in FC on a PPC Mac you simply drag from the SDHC card and you can see the quicktime on your desktop.
My other system Mac Pro intel mac running 3.5 MC cannot see the video (visual) on the quicktime on the desktop or in the Avid. You can hear the sound.
Also shot as a MP4 format and tried to import into the Avid and is not supported.
Anybody getting through this or have suggestions
thanks

This is sounding like you don't have the JVC codecs on that Intel Mac. Install the codecs and you should be OK.

That's just it, no company specific codecs because they are quicktime........
QT is an encoder/decoder. It's not a codec per se. You need to find the codecs that camera uses and make sure they are installed in the QT codecs folder.
Ok the JVC/Avid journey continues. Took the CD supplied with the JVC GY-HM100 "the next big thing in HD," obviously for FCP users, and loaded the drivers
1 Clip Manager
2. SVS Device Driver
Same results the mov and mpg4 movies shot on the camera exhibit a dark screen when imported into the Avid.
Have contacted JVC. I wonder if the two companies ever talked about this.
thanks for any additional help anyone can provide
Ok so I am answering my own post. This is a good camera maybe everybody here is just an editor but I think JVC and Apple cut a deal and Avid is left behind again.
JVC will not answer my emails and Avid thinks its a simply answer. The quicktime is wrapped in something that only FCP sees. Not good for my Avid system, management is looking to standardize and get rid of my baby. Just another victory for FCP.
So I foubnd a thread and product that works......
Thanks for the interest in our software! The product you are probably wanting is Calibrated{Q} XD Decode - this will allow you to import the JVCProHD QuickTime Movies into Avid Media Composer (MC though will convert this to DNxHD or whatever you have setup in MC on import)The Calibrated{Q} XD Decode codec will also let you view the QuickTime Movies in QuickTime Player and any other 3rd party application that supports QuickTime.Calibrated{Q} XD Decode - you can download demo herehttp://www.calibratedsoftware.com/QXD.aspAvid MC 3.5 should allow you to import MP4 files in the BPAV folder structure from all I've read - I havent teted that though as I only have Avid MC 3.1.We also offer another plugin called - Calibrated{Q} MP4-EX Import:http://www.calibratedsoftware.com/MP4EXImport_Mac.aspThis plugin (when used in conjunction with XD Decode) would allow you to view the JVCProHD MP4 files in QuickTime Player (and some other QuickTime-centric applications like CatDV)- however this plugin would not be used by Avid MC.Hopefully that answers your questions! If you have any others please let me know.Cheers,GregThank you me for answering my post
