Just built a new PC....however, I tried to export test render and it crashed at 19% every time. Sometimes computer hangs and I have to reboot. I may also point out that the Avid startup and Aviddsm crashes on startup. I did uninstall/reinstall and the same results. Avid edits, imports from firewire etc fine.
I've tested the new PC with Prime etc and it's totally stable.
Somebody on a random forum suggested rolling back Quicktime.
I uninstalled the latest Quicktime and downloaded 6.0. That didn't work, and what's worse now is that I cannot install Quicktime whatsoever. I uninstalled 7.4, installed 6.0, uninstalled 6.0 and tried to install 7.1 but essentially, even with System Restore, it tells me I must install the latest 7.4....when I do, it just crashes if I try to access the QT player etc and gives errors on uninstall.
So essentially now Quicktime does not uninstall/reinstall etc. etc. Therefore no Avid. I've tried editing the registery and have removed all Quicktime references,
So to summarise
- initial Quicktime 7.4 + Avid HD Pro gave me crashing on rendering (and errors on Avid startup/AvidSDM)
- rolling back Quicktime 7.1 has resulted in a malfunctioning QT. It won't load or do anything and I can't uninstall it even with registering editing, CCleaner and rolling back to earlier date on System Restore.
My specs :
I7 / 2.66ghz Gigabyte mobo / 3gig ram
GE Force GTS250
1.5tb raided on Intel raid500gig/1.5tb on regular HD
s/ware : AVG, Postgres
I am not sure what to do except reformat and re-install windows.
And even then I may be back to square 1 where I have Avid giving Avidstartup and AvidDSM errors, plus rendering crashing.

In essence there are 2 options... you can muddle about for the next couple of weeks trying to salvage an instable system or you could re-install the OS make absolutely sure you have the correct mobo drivers and Windows XP Pro SP2 and the correct version of QT.
I would choose the latter.. kinda sucks but you are way too far to get back to a stable system. Reinstalling might take the better part of the morning but gives the most chances on a stable system.

Did a clean install of Windows XP Pro on a seperate drive. This has SP3 and Quicktime 7.1 (working)
Installed Avid 5.2.2
I boot up and get problem with Avidstartup crashing.
When I start Avid I get :
An ACCESS VIOLATION exception occured
AVIDSDM could not be loaded or initialized.
The application loads however. But this is the same situation as before (before I started changing Quicktime), on the other OS.
Well get rid of SP3, atthe time this software was used SP3 was not available,, chances are it is incompatible. Also did you install the proper mobo drivers? What are the specs of the system anyway? (besides the ones allready mentioned.. driver version NVIDIA, simple file sharing disabled, diver helper service disabled.. in short.. did you follow the instructions on the readme?)
Thanks, I think SP3 might be the problem.
Some other things :
Simple file sharing is OFF
NVIDIAI GEFORCE GTS 250 driver 6.14.11.8250
