feglo:I used Sonic DVD by Avid and the quality was less than that of my import-export method.
My point is that if you're creating the DVD compliant MPEG-2 file before you even get to your DVD app of choice, the quality should be the same. What you're doing by importing directly into Encore or Sonic is leaving it up to the DVD app to encode the video to MPEG-2. Depending on the algorithms used by either of those for encoding you are bound to get differing results.
In other words, your test of "quality" is flawed because it is subject to many variables.

Yes, it works exceptionally well with Avid. It can transcode into Avid codecs and just about any other codec you have registered on your computer. It is easy to use but also very powerful, so it should be able to do exactly what you need.
As for no quality loss, it can encode Avid 1:1, which I believe is losses and uncompressed, so that should look exactly like the DVD. There are many other format options as well. And many times the file created by TMPGEnc Xpress 4.0 will fast import into MC.
IMHO, it's a great, must have program.
