Since upgrading this suite to 3.5.1 (yesterday) I've been experiencing something very odd. Only evident in one project (although I haven't thoughly tested others).

Basically sometimes when I make a cut, it's not playing the cut properly. The playhead travels over the cut but continues playing the outgoing clips for a second or so, then plays the incoming clip from where it was meant to start. Meaning I'm getting too much of Shot A before the cut, and Shot B is starting on the right frame visually, but too late (so out of audio sync).

If I stop it will display the correct frame (where it would have been in Shot B had it not started late). I can scroll across the cut correctly back and forward, it matchframes correctly. When I shift Shot B up to V2 it's fine, but as long as it's butting up directly against Shot A it plays wrong.

This is making editing almost impossible. We have 6 edit suites all running Media Composer 3.5.1 (two or three are News Cutter 7.5.1, but same diff). I'm the only editor reporting this so far. I've tried other user settings with no luck. It's happening to me in two different projects (different episode of the same show).

The footage is all MPEG 50, playing from a Unity drive (Fibre, Unity MediaNetwork).

Any suggestions would be happily received.

Well deleting mcstate and Site Settings seems to have done the trick - was told we'd already done that, but it's cleared up for the moment.

I can replicate the error in other MC 3.5.1 suites. But other people are editing without problems. New user settings make no difference. Have also deleted project settings globally and for this Unity client in the project with no obvious impact.

Closing the project and reopening is making no difference, but I can't deliberately replicate the problem - so I can't make an edit that I know will fail, but when it does nothing seems to change the fault.

The fault occurs only on cuts, if I put a transition in there it plays correctly - even a 1-frame dissolve. So that's my workaround for the moment. Not ideal.

Further to this - it's also been happening to another editor (working on a different project, but predominantly in the same suite).

At this stage we're considering that we'll have to downgrade back to MC 3, but the need to demote all the edited sequences makes that unappealing if it can be avoided.

Dylan, I was cutting and old vhs tape yesterday in 100 pieces, boring but has to be done manually, no shortcuts or other fast workflows for it.

I didn´t see the prob you are describing, could you give me more details so I might try to reproduce it.

I'm pretty sure that if you had the same problem I have you'd know about it.

Here's an example, a test I just did:

Shot 1 - Mark in and an arbitary point, mark out 3 seconds later. Cut to sequence.
Shot 2 - Same thing, 3-second shot, edited on to the end of the first shot.

Play it now, and all works as expected.

Go into trim mode on cut between Shots 1 and 2, do A-side trim to shorten Shot 1 by a second.

Play it now, and the audio is fine, but the picture carries on as if no cut has been made. Shot 1 vision plays for an extra second beyond the edit.

Same thing happens if I mark a section of the clip and extract it.

Trimming a shot to be longer doesn't have the problem. However it has to be longer than it was before the previous edit. So making a cut, then trimming out doesn't help.

Ok, never wen´t into trim mode , just cut cut  cut remove cut cut etc etc

Will do a test in trim mode later today.

I'm pretty sure it's not something typical in 3.5.1 as complaints would be flowing think and fast, but there's obviously something weird going on specifically for us.

For the moment I've downgraded to 3.1.2 to be able to cut this episode.

I have seen things in trim mode with 3,5 - 3,51 that noone else has seen ( yet ) as long as I am alone seeing this, all is well.

By the way, my present project is a remake of an old vhs tape from 84 , a big rifle shooting competition here in Sweden , I did a little fast preview a couple of months ago, they want me to do it for future arcivating and dvd now, link is here.

Maybe I missed it (Skimming not reading) but have you opened this sequence in a new project? Do you still get the problem there? This sounds like either a sequence or a project file corruption.

I haven't actually tried that. Although it's happened in 3 different projects created at different times, and the problem ceased to exist when I downgraded and opened the project in 3.1.2... Unfortunately I don't have much time to try and troubleshoot - we're cutting a weekly show with very little leeway so I can't take the time out to do it.

Hopefully I will get a chance in the not too distant future to go back up to 3.5.1 and see if it happens again, and perhaps if it does I'll test 3.5.0 as well.

I'm shooting a 48 Hour Film in two weeks which I will be cutting here in the weekend, on EX1 - so 3.5 will be beneficial then obviously. :)

I'm confused. Above you say it's just one project and now you say it's multiple. Is this a new discovery since your first post?

Just one when I initially posted, since then I've had it in another and another editor experienced it in a project he was working on.

Can you make this happen in a sequence that is NOT using DV50 media? (or any 50mb media for that matter).
