It is with a very profound sense of sadness that I must inform the Community of the passing of one of it's top 10 participants - expertly knowledgeable, extremely friendly, great sense of humor, sly of rapier wit, and always helpful beyond what any words of thanks could ever say - my very good and personal friend, sep.
It's really hard to convey just how valued and helpful a member of this global community sep was. He was absolutely dedicated in his pursuit of problems posted and did everything in his power and influence to find a solution for MANY, MANY users on this site for a number of years. For those of you who did not know sep, just do a search for posts by him to see just how helpful he was. A great many of us are much obliged and forever in his debt, and I say to you that he will be sorely missed. In fact, he's been sorely missed already by those who knew him outside the confines of this Forum.
So Sep, I say to you, look down on us, pity us our NLE predicaments, and may you spread the blessings of eternally functioning and never crashing software upon our platforms from the great Avid beyond.
Au revoir, Mon Ami. I am already missing you.

Sep was a good friend. I say that, though I never met him and only ever conversed with him through this forum and later by email. He was prehaps the most passionate believer in this forum and it's sense of world-wide camaraderie. As Larry says, just read some of his many posts (over 5500) to get a sense of him. His wife, Brigitte, relayed this when she told me of his passing. She wrote:"I would like to say to everyone that Sep really appreciated all those technical discussions, which often went on into the night. He liked that international solidarity based on a shared passion. He didn’t say it often, but I knew that he suffered from no longer being able to continue his work and enjoy our “technico-complicity”.I would like to thank you for all those happy moments which you let him experience."
Sep was a great contributor to this 'community' and will be missed.
Goodbye, my friend.

I couldn't even come close to counting how many times I've found informative and helpful posts by sep that helped me get through a late night Avid issue. He will be greatly missed for sure....
...best wishes and prayers for his family and loved ones.
Goodbye Dear Sep. You will be sorely missed.

A very sad day indeed and a great loss to these forums.
I never personally met sep but his tireless contributions both here and privately led to us becoming cyber friends, protagonists and comrades in battles over the years.
It is with a immeasurable feeling of loss that I wish you God speed in your journey from here Joseph.

This is a thread I've been dreading to read for some time now. There are too few seps in this world.
Generous, helpful, witty and often the welcoming "voice" that a new member of these forums first encountered, sep will be sorely missed.
Requiescat in pace, Joseph Mehr.
I'll miss Sep's warmth and humor as well as his tremendous technical knowledge and his willingness to share that knowledge so freely with others. Vaya con dios, amigo.

things in life where you go OMG.. Just heard it and i feel sad. Have been in contact with Sep for many years. We spend a lot of time mailing. We always had something to chat about especially the country he lived in. My vacation country of choice, his homeland.
I will miss him very much! All strength and thoughts to the family..

Sep's GONE!!!??? Wow...I can't even begin to describe the numbness that I'm feeling right now. He was a cool dude. Never met him face-to-face, but we tackled a few problems together. What a loss!!! The online community will reel from this for quite a long time.
God bless you, Sep. And prayers to his family in the meantime.
When 900 years old YOU reach, look as good, YOU'LL not!! Hmmm?
Only 53 too.. So sorry to hear it. I had noticed his declining contribution to the forum in the last few months to a year, was he ill?
According to his profile he last visited the Forum in October. I just did a forum Search for "sep, kenton.vannatten" just to reminisce a bit on some of the posts we both contributed to.
Not to misdirect the thread, but does anyone remember (or know what happened to) Hans? I believe his handle was vienna1944 or something.

So very saddened to hear this. Sep was one of the great ones who was also friendly, encouraging and humble...these are the traits of a true professional. I will miss him.
My thoughts and prayers are with Sep and his loved ones.

He was ill from late in 2007 and was hospitalized in the summer of 2008. He had been undergoing chemo treatment for prostate cancer, but unfortunately it metastasized. I've known this for quite some time, but in deference to his family's privacy I kept it to myself, except for some private emails to other members I knew were also his close friends.
Adding in my condolences too. Sep was solid in the help offered over the years.

My prayers and condolences go out to his family. Sep was truly one of a kind in his knowledge, wit, and generosity. I owe much of what I know to him. He will be sorely missed.
