    ERROR???

I am trying to edit on an Xpress HD 5.2.4 and keep getting an error:

    Exception ERROR:
SWCoonfidence/view SWCoonfidence/view unable to initialize overlay

    the system specs are:

    Computer Model- Dell Precision T3400

    # of processors- Two, Intel E8200 2.66GHz

    Amount of Ram: 2GB

    operating system- XP Pro

Name of graphics card- NVIDIA Quadro FX570

I am getting this when I'm trying to capture video, if I select AUDIO ONLY in the capture tool, no problem. I'm using a Sony GV-D1000 MiniDV Video deck. I have to choose generic device, since the deck isn't in the list of approved decks. I am capturing via firewire. According to my client, everything has worked before. And there is media in the OMFI folder. I am capturing to the c: drive, there isn't any other drives on the system. I thought perhaps the drive was either too slow or too full, but the drive is 7200rpm, 223.7 GB free out of 250GB. It doesn't matter what resolution I use, still the same error. I imported in an .avi at ALL of the resolutions available, had no problems. I'm getting the error ONLY when trying to capture video.

    Any ideas?

    TIA,

    Kent

    Kent:

Even if it's just to a Seagate portable 100 to 600 gig drive, try capturing to an external drive and see if the problem persists. Avid STRONGLY recommends that media files NOT be captured to the C: system drive. It has enough work to do just running and managing the application, let alone to store, retrieve, cue up and playback media stream fragments seamlessly in real time. It's not just a matter of space - you are overtaxing the system drive, and the more media you store there, the greater number of problems you will encounter.
