Okay I bit the bullet and set up a system to try this out. Windows 7 (Beta7000) - 64bit Ultimate - formatted the hard drive and installed really quickly (much quicker than XP).
Avid MC 3.1.2 installed with only a couple of errors (I got a illegal function call error during the install - but I was unable to determine what is was in reference to.) I dismissed the errors and completed the installation.
MC loads fine - and basic functions (capturing video, playback to a deck/client display), basic edits, all work correctly.
My only problem is I cannot play any video (clips or sequence) on my computer's display. I can drag through the sequence, but as soon as I hit play the image freezes (but it does plays normally through firewire to my client display). When I stop the image jumps to the stop point. I attribute this to having an ATI HD2600 card (instead of nVidia), but I am unsure if this is a Windows 7 thing or a universal problem with ATI cards - anyone have a working ATI system? or a workaround for ATI?
I did the same with Win7 - 32 bit. Installed with just a couple errors, then I get the "cannot use Avid with desktop compositing on" when I try to launch MC... does this happen in Vista? My production machine is still XP.
In any case, I can edit and play video. I do have an nvidia card.
I haven't tried much else.
lmerino: "cannot use Avid with desktop compositing on"
Yeah that just means the "theme" needs to be set to Windows 7 "Basic" I am not in front of the machine right now - but I think if you right-click on the desktop - at the bottom of the contextual menu are three options for display changes. One of them is "My Themes"
In the theme settings, in the third tier the first icon is for "Windows 7 Basic" Choose that, and the error will go away when you launch Avid.
Hi,

Yes, that happens in Vista, too.
good luck,Carl
There is no such thing as a video emergency.
I've got a new website for 2010!
ATI here. Everything works great.
But a 4850 has a lot more power than a 2600.

Hmmm. Okay - what driver are you running?
Everything of my system is in signature.
It's 8.12. OpenGL works also.
I thought that I should give this a ( fast ) try but sorry, there was no drivers fro my XFI Elite Pro, seems to be way to early to start with some tests

But having sound is rather important on an editing system, don´t you agree ...?
very important....
It is empty in the W7 column for drivers on creativelabs website and there are currently no audio drivers on WU, I guess that it is just to wait

George, where did you find the drivers for your XFI audiocard, I have searched in both creatives web as well as WU without success
2600xt and 4670 on Vista x86, Vista x64 and Windows 7 fully working.
Onboard Sound is working. But as usual, another soundcard (in my case it is an external Usb M-Audio piece o.s.) needs to be connected, but does not need to be the primary device.
OpenGl? ... OpenGl Acceleration in Avid?! ^^ How did you get this to work?

As I read it in sverkalos post he had everything working with the setup in his signature
" Everything of my system is in signature. "
and that was also my reason to do a test at this very early stage as we do have similar hardware.
I am however not able to find any drivers for my soundcard, hopefully sverkalo will guide me.
and, the open Gl settings has nothing to do with windows 7, you turn them on for uncertified videocards in the general preferences for the open gl filters after that you have done the open gl test at first.
