academic software, how do I tell?

I have just purchased a brand new boxed and sealed media composer V3. I was assured that it is the full professional version and NOT the academic version. I have installed the programme on the computer, it seems to work ok with the dongle. I have also installed and registered the extra programmes that came in the box.

The problem is that I am unable to register the software on the avid site. Every time I put in the system id number and serial number, the website says

"Avid Product Registration not completed: xxxxxxxx is not a valid Serial Number in our system"

I'm trying to register the product as  the professional version. Is there a way to tell if I have been sold the academic version??????

    Any advice greatly appreciated.

The first thing you should notice if you have the Commercial version is whether or not you received the 3rd Party applications and documentation in the box.

Secondly, when you launch the software it would say "Academic" on the splash screen.

The Academic version of Media Composer is a smaller box as it doesn't include the third party software and it says Academic on the box itself, on the splash screen when it is launched and displayed in the dongle information. If you haven't yet, launch the dongle manager and see what information is listed there: http://www.avid.com/dongle.

    Thanks guys,

Seems I do have the full version and NOT the academic version.

Is there a way of telling if it has been previously registered?

    Thanks again.
