Called avid tech: Uded up my only call:
Avid Reply:
Since your drive was ported over from another windows installation, probably XP,I have found a workaround for this other then porting the data to a new drive, it was forwarded by a microsoft technician, have not tested it myself but got good references. We can't guarantee it works though. It would be best to contact Microsoft directly. This is a common problem with files that you created from anotherinstallation of Windows. This has to do with the security settings that Windows XP applied tothese files. Since they were created from your user account in XP,they do not apply to your user account in Vista, and so you are deniedaccess in some circumstances. To fix this, you can follow these steps:- Click Start- Type: cmd- Right-click cmd when it appears- Click Run As Administrator- Change location to the folder you need access to (e.g. cd e:\folder)- Type: takeown /F . /R /A /D Y > NUL- Type: icacls . /grant USEROI)(CI)(F) /L /T /Q(Where USER is your username - you will only have access from yourXP and Vista machine in this case)(Or, replace USER with Users if you want anyone [on any computeryour hard drive is plugged into] to have full access to these files)

Paul,
Could you tell us what problem you had that prompted this call? What version of Vista are you attempting to run?

You can also Right-Click on the folder, and choose Sharing. From there, you should grant Full Control, and also, under Advanced. re-assign Administrators ownership. Much easier than the command line approach.
BTW ... I now do this for every file or folder I bring to my system from an outside source.

The problems that prompted me to call:
The avid is giving me a disk access denied error. I am sure everyone has see this at one time or another.
I am hving conflicts in the pwoper way to grant myself owner rights to the HD's my work are stored in.
I went through the threds and tried to find this issue http://community.avid.com/forums/p/63145/353768.aspx#353768
This looked very close to my problem.
I thought I'd actually call tec support for the first time in 13 years as a avid editor. It was a 30 second call.
I could use advise in step by step guide to properly Get the avid to get permissions to the four SATA HD's
Does this help?
Thanks for any thoughts.

Paul, please give tech support another call and ask to be escalated if you don't get your problem solved. If you still have trouble, email me privately and I will see what we can do.
HI,
I am still having problems and I will try to give tech support a call and ask to be escalated. I'm using qualified workstations and operating systyems. Avid is the only thing on the box.
I woudl love to email you and I will give you a copy of the transaction. I know there will be other people going through the same thing that would appreciate a guide.

When you assign "Full Control", and assign "Ownership" rights to Administrators (plural), are you doing this from the root level of the drive, i.e., the top-most folder, that contains your files?
