Well, I've checked everywhere that I can think of it and I can't find an answer for this. Perhaps it is an Avid Teck Support question I'm not sure. At home, I am running both a G5 dual 2.0 and a Dell M65 notebook. I am trying to download the upgrade to go to 2.8.4. The Mac download went fine. However, when I try to download for the PC, everything seems to go just fine. Until I try the install. I will double click on the launch application, and the install window for the Avid programs open, it gives me the choice of installing the media suite, or individual programs. When I go to the individual programs, select Media Composer, first, a blue backdrop window with the word Avid on its opens up, sits there for about three seconds then goes away. Nothing happens! This is the same thing that happens every time regardless of the program I choose to install, EDL manager, Film Scribe, Log Exchange ext.... Inside the Media Composer application that was downloaded and unzipped, I try to open the folder that says disk1, the file still looks like it is zipped. I get this error message:
‘The archive is either an unknown format or damaged.”
I'm not sure what this means. Do I have a corrupted download? I am not downloading this via wireless. I have even tried to download the PC version onto my Mac unzip that, put onto a flash drive and load it onto my windows. Everything seems to go just fine until I try to install the program. Now, I'm stumped. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am going to the knowledge base, download center, upgrade, and choosing the 2.8 upgrade. I then go to the selection for 2.8.4. Has anyone heard of this problem? I have been trying this since Wednesday.
The reason I decided to upgrade is because when I am playing back media on my Dell, the video just stops. The audio continues to play with the video quits working. It was working just fine and then suddenly it stopped. If I turn off the audio and video still will not move. If I turn the video off, the audio still plays perfectly. I first thought that I had some corrupted media, I threw away all of the pre-computes. I threw them all away and rear rendered. He I thought perhaps it was a corrupted title, I threw them all away and recreated. I then broke down the sequence into pieces to try and get to play. Nothing. The video just will not play. I thought perhaps I had too many objects’ mxf folder, however there are only 1,567. I also got an express card and hooked up an external Fire wire drive. The same thing happened. So, I thought perhaps my application has corrupted. Let me say here that I did do the usual throwing away the database files, MCState, site attributes, and tried a new user. Nothing. So I thought this would be a good time to upgrade since I was running 2.8.2.
Any help there would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Kent
