switching from one subtitle language to another

    Hey all

I have two tracks in which i edited subtitles made with the title tool in two different languages. i would like to have the possibility to switch back and forth between them but I can't figure out how. let's say I have sub in english on track 4 and sub in spanish on track 5. to see them in english no problem but to see them in spanish i have a problem. if I invert tracks 4 and 5 and exclude track 5 by having the monitor on track 4 i still see track five. how can I solve this? I hope it was clear enough

    thanks

This is currently a limitation with Avid's timelines. The workaround that I use is to leave an empty track below the two ST tracks. Then I lasso all of the subtitiles from left to right and drag them down to the empty track. I then view that track when editing. When I am ready for the other languae, I move the first back to its track and move the second down.

It's a kludge, to be sure, but, until Avid can give us isolated solos on an effect track, it's the best we got.

Re: switching from one subtitle language to another

The best workflow may be the following

    1. Cut your sequence with the native language track as a top track.

    2. From the Sub cap plugin export a DS caption file.

    3. Translate that file to the new language.

    3. Dup the sequence and delete all track with the sub cap effect.

    4. Add a new top level track and apply the SubCap effect. ( A single instance across the entire top level track)

    5. From the SubCap effect import the translated file.
