Locator - Can't see ALL TEXT?????

In Media Composer 3.0 - Is there a better way to see Locators in the locators tool window?

Maybe, I'm having a brain cramp? In Assist, We've logged the Senate Bailout Hearing - and the column width in the locators tool is very narrow. Only way to enlarge column seems to be via the hamburger menu? Any way to be able to see ALL the text for each locator? You can when you click in the text, it reveals itself, but there doesn't seem to be a way so see it all in one window? Am I wrong? Please tell me I am. It's not practical to use the hamburger menu to enlarge column.

Is the only way the POPUP window when you double-click on the locator in the source monitor?

What if I want to print off all my locators?

    Thanks,

    Joe

Are you using the Locator Text as a transcription?  I think that's not going to work so well.

why not? Please don't tell me that. It's great to be able to have the time code stamp for each clip and tab on to the next quote...

But if It's too long we can do it another way? But what way? Comments field?

I'm pretty sure you'll hit a character limit at some point in MC.  I know you can type all day in the Assist, but I think that currently it's better suited to "logging" rather than "transcribing"

You could copy/paste the text into a Word doc, then use ScriptSync (which in my opinion would be a better workflow advantage for the editors)

I can try that... but doesn't seem like a 'facility-wide solution' or kinda makes assist a useless tool then...

Not really, it's a "logging" tool.  Logging is not Transcribing.  You could encourage your Assist Loggers to summarize the comments rather than Transcribe them fully.  (ie, "Joe Smith - on working at Major Corp" vs. "Working at Major Corp has been a great experience for me and I owe a lot of my success to the achievements....")

Re: Locator - Can't see ALL TEXT?????

There is a way to get a list of your locators, but you have to go about it kind of backwards.  However, this process doesn't take that long, and it has worked pretty well so far in our newsroom.

After you have logged/transcribed in Assist, open Access.  Find the clip with locator information, and in the top area where you view all the information about the clip, choose frame locators.  Next, choose File>Print.  You are going to have to select the area that you want to print, and so an orange outline will appear where ever you hover your mouse.  Click on the locator information box.  A dialogue box will appear asking you to save a document.  You have a couple of choices here.  If you just want to print it out, you can leave it as a PDF and save it.  If you want to be able to copy and paste the text (we email ourselves in iNews, so everyone can see it), change the format to TXT.  Then just name it and save it in a place you can find easily (the desktop works great).  Then go find the file and print or copy and paste.  You will have to do this step for each separate clip with logged information.

    I hope this helps!

I forgot to mention in my last post that this does let you see all of the text for each locator, no matter how long.

    Good luck!
