Creating a Basic Picture in Picture Effect in Avid Media Composer 3

    Locked Contact

Creating a basic picture in picture (PIP) effect in Media Composer is quite simple. Depending on the look you’re going for, you can achieve this effect with just one video track. Performing the PIP effect with one video track will leave you with a black background. If you want a video or graphic for a background, you need to have two tracks that are filled with video or with graphics.

    1. Place the video or graphic that you want to use as the background in video track 1, then add a new video track, and place the video you will resize in video track two.

    2. Go to the Project Window and click on the Effects tab.

    3. Under the Blend option, drag the Picture-in-Picture effect icon from the Effects tab, and drop it on the video placed in track 2. You can now see the effect in the Record monitor.

    4. Click the Effect Mode icon. You can now drag the clip to reposition it, and use the handles of the bounding box to resize the picture.
