Could we please have an option to display a full frame of video when parked on the timeline (full screen view mode). This goes for both SD and HD.
I'm so tired of clients asking me, "Is that shot out of focus?", or "Why is that soft?", or "What happened there?" or "How come that looks so bad" or.....
I just can't think of any reason why (especially on not interlaced material) that avid should show a half-res frame when stopped when full res is selected.
Are you viewing your stuff on a client monitor via a Mojo, Adrenaline or DX box?

Because when you park on a frame on an interlaced monitor - it may flicker violently when displaying both interlaced fields on the monitor. so to not display that violent flickering - they double the dominant line. so you either say "it looks like that because..." then you play it and it looks fine, or the oposite scenario is you say "it looks like that because..." and you play it and it looks fine.
for me, i'd rather see a stable image at 1/2 quality when parked than to get an epilictic seisure because my monitor is strobing every time i hit stop.
Happy Editing!
I support the request (lots of progressive monitoring going on these days). There used to be an option to display both fields in progressive projects on Meridien, BTW. Slowed things down significantlty back then, though.

So let's make it an option.
BTW: the OP specifically mentioned progressive source footage. There's no problem watching a full progressive frame, not even on an interlaced monitor.
I use Mojo for SD and standard full screen playback on a second monitor (not Adrenaline etc.) display for HD. Both display half-res when parked, even on progressive scan HD, which just doesn't make any sense.
FunkyDragon, did you even read the post? My main concern is with progressive scan HD. But also in SD it is important to be able to see a full frame of video. One button. Full/Field. Not that hard.
So you're saying that in Full Screen Playback, when you stop playback, the image is made up of every other line? Even with PROGRESSIVE material?
I don't use Full Screen Playback much, but if that's the case, it's retarded!
That's exactly what I'm saying.
Well it's especially absurd b/c Avid doesn't let you make changes like color correcting while the timeline is playing. Press a key or click any button, and Avid immediately stops playing.
So in FSP, you're stuck with looking at a half resolution PROGRESSIVE frame whenever you try to make a change. Really, that is indefensible.

Yup, I've noticed this too when viewing 1080p material in Full-screen. It's certainly 'degraded' whilst parked (even in Green-Green mode), but once you hit the play button, suddenly it sharpens up and looks like it should.
I've done tests with this using high-resolution still photographs from a Nikon DSLR and you can actually see the quality jump as it 'engages' both fields (or rather, shows every line rather than every 2nd or whatever Avid is doing behind-the-scenes).
It is interesting that in the console, under the OpenGL Implementation Found section, it usually reads:
"maximum render dimensions: = 1920 x 540 at 8 bits per pixel channel"
Curious then, that 540 is of course exactly half of a 1080p frame in terms of height. Coincedence?

I'm confused, are we talking about FullScreenPlayback (the menu option in Avid) or playing back to a client monitor with a DNA/DX box?
Kenton.VanNatten: I'm confused, are we talking about FullScreenPlayback (the menu option in Avid) or playing back to a client monitor with a DNA/DX box?
Well in my case I've been talking about a single-monitor setup using a 20.1" LG LCD screen in "Fullscreen Playback" mode.
malefunktion:in my case I've been talking about a single-monitor setup using a 20.1" LG LCD screen in "Fullscreen Playback" mode
In that setup, I can understand/expect it to be single field.
Kenton.VanNatten:In that setup, I can understand/expect it to be single field.
That's the point though. When viewing 720p or 1080p non-field-based material, why on earth would/should a full-screen or even windowed display be presented to an editor as "single" or limited fields when parked?
I just opened a 1080p 23.976 project; it is definitely not interlaced.
I see the exact same thing: resolution goes very soft when play is stopped.
