Targa or Still's Import Resizing Issue

    Hello All,

Wondering you some one could explain something to me. We've been getting our VFX temp comps sent to us in Targa or Tiff file's just to import into the avid. Were working in 23.98 NTSC at 720 x 486 on a Mac Pro 4 Terrabytes with 8 Gigi's of Ram at DV25P 411 with Media Composer 3.0. VFX  files are 720 x 486 from a flame but when I import them (maintain, no squared) it shrinks them a little to not match our dailies which are the same aspect raitio. Its just a slight little push down on the picture size. I've exported a file from a timeline as a Tiff file at 720x486 and reimported it as well and still the same little push down on the pictures size. Its as if its bringing it in 720 x480 instead of 720 x 486. is there anything I can do to correct this? I've gone threw all the import settings, general settings and tried everything and it just looks wierd when you play a scene and you come to a VFX shot that has been imported and that little bump in the picture happens. Re-sizing all 250-300 shots will be a bit of a pain as well. Let me know if there's a little setting I might be missing.

    Cheers

    Renn

    Hi Renn,

    Renn:
Its as if its bringing it in 720 x480 instead of 720 x 486.

I'm not 100% certain (I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong), but if you're working in DV25 411, I think you're working at 720x480.  If I'm right, the difference between your VFX frame size (720x486) and the frame size of your dalies (720x480) would explain what you're seeing.

    good luck,
    Carl

Carl is correct. Any resolution other than DV should be 720 x 486 but DV is 720 x 480.

Thanks for the confirmation, Todd.  I don't work in DV much, and the 210 class was about 4 years ago. Smile

    adios,
