    A sound question

Am editing in the same TV set i used to watch broadcast tv and i have notice that the intensity

or volume of the sound when am editing is considerable lower than when am watching normal

broadcast tv, am using  -10 dB as my higher limit in the sound editing, so my question is if my work

ever gets broadcast is it going to sound as strong as any other broadcast show or will the volume

will be lower, just the way am hearing it in editing.

    Thanks.

That generally really depends entirely on the competence of the Master Control operator who is responsible for playing back the footage, if he/she sets the playback level too low/high it makes no difference how you have it on the master tape.  Also, there are a ton of limiters and compressors that a broadcast signal goes through before it gets to your set.

I would not use it as any kind of benchmark to set your levels by.  Set your levels to what they should be based on your VU meters and based on what sounds good to you using proper studio monitors.

    Re: A sound question

Nearly all sound mixes for professional broadcast are pretty severely compressed and limited. That makes for part of the difference. Unfortunately, most broadcasters these days also use processors like the Orban Optimod, which compresses/limits/boosts/pumps/stirs even more, especially if an overly excited engineer has been playing with the knobs.
