Exporting P2 on Avid for FCP output

    Hello All--

I've searched the forums and the P2 workflows but haven't found the answer to my specific question:

    I'm running Avid Media Composer v2.8 on a Apple G5 Dual 2.3Ghz with QT 7.3 running OS X 10.4.11.  Everything's to Avid's specifications.

I've got a 720p 23.976 Avid project with 720p60 P2 footage and want to export the best uncompressed quicktime I can to put into a Final Cut Pro system to layoff to DBeta.

The SAS QT doesn't work at all—it gets hung up and doesn't export exactly what I want it to export, and I wondering if anyone has found a good codec to use for going from Avid 720p60 to FCP 720p60.  I would have initially thought the DVCPRO HD 720p60 codec would work fine, but I in the export settings I can't get it to get off "Medium" quality.  The Animation codec looks amazing—would that be the only way?

Just want to see if anyone else has had any experience with this.

    Thanks,

    Yusef

I would normally use the SAS but that means you would have to have the Avid codecs on the FCP system. Can't say why it's haning up on you unless there is a problem with some of the media in your sequence.

My next choice would be Animation. Great looking codec..huge files sizes though.

the 'DOG is correct, or you might try 'None'.  Even larger, but you'll know nothing has changed in your media.  I export using 'None' before crunching my :30 spots with Episode for DG DropBox transmission.  Huge, pristine files.

I think I'm just going to go the Animation codec route because it's going to SD DBeta anyways.

    Thanks for your comment BLKDOG.

I've used Animation with sucess, and also used Blackmagic codecs.

One potential gotcha is colour levels, I believe you have to export RGB levels to get the right colours out of FCP in that setup.
