    render times and watermarks

I have created a watermark with a psd from Photoshop and only got the oval shaped layer I needed using the matte key created by Media Composer.  The render time is about 4min for 1min of logo.  A Superimpose of a TIF is faster but doesn't give me just the shape that I need.  Is there a way to keep the oval and decrease the render time when this is put over 90 minutes of footage.

I can render overnight so telling me the key is the way to go won't break my heart.

    any suggestions??

    well, i'm waiting. . . .     hehe

    Hi Tim,

Can you post a screenshot of what you're trying to do?  I'm having trouble picturing it.

    adios,

Tim, in photoshop, create your watermark as a single layer with no background layer. Then adjust the transparency to your likes and save the file as a .png.

Now, when you import the file into AVid, make sure you invert the alpha in the import dialog box and it should come in perfectly as a RT matte Key.

A screen shot could take a while but the idea is to have my "company logo" in the bottom right corner at a 20% opacity like a watermark or the CBS eyeball on TV.

I'm getting the matte key fine and the realtime is working but we export as a QT reference ( for DVD creation) and it renders everything before exporting.  The issue is pretty much time.

Ok, so if the key is working, the render time should be a lot faster than what you are getting.

I started the render for the whole hour and you're right  the time has worked it's way down to less than a minute but it's still a 50 minute render for all tracks.  Better than having to wait overnight.

QT reference is pretty much pointless when you have to render the whole clip anyway because each frame was changed due to the watermark. Basically you'll need at least the time it takes to uncompress each frame and compress it again, plus a little overhead for the overlay calculation. Sadly you can't export to mpeg2 directly, this silly limitation forces you to endure the double render (first on export to qt ref, then again in squeeze), uses two times diskspace, probably degrading your material. This is one sad example, where avids ignorance of mpeg2 complicates a workflow.
