I had been running xpress pro 4.3.5 on tiger, now I've upgraded powermac g5 OS to Leopard and can't launch avid. I did an uninstall and then tried to install Xpress Pro 5.6.4 (from download from avid.com) but now when I launch I only get this message:

Your system is not licensed to run this version of the software, please contact an avid rep for further assistance.

What can I do to resolve this and continue running xpress pro (I dont want to upgrade to MC).

can someone help me....I can't get avid reps on phone on the wknd.

No flavor of XpressPro will run on Leopard.  The best you can do is 5.8 on 10.4.11

You got the licensing message because you must upgrade your dongle in order to update the software.  You can download the software and install it all day long, but until you buy the upgrade and have your dongle blessed for that version you will see that message. 

In order to use any Avid product on Leopard you will have to upgrade to MC.

JEEZ! Doesnt seem fair...and its certainly not what the apple people told me before i decided to purchase leopard.

I would love to know what they told you exactly about Avid XpressPro specifically and Leopard.

Fair?  Fair has nothing to do with software development.  When you bought AXP, there was no indication or promise of support for future OS's.  Additionally, why would you ask Apple what an Avid system requirement is?  Apple is in the business of selling "their" stuff.  The Avid system requirements are clearly listed on this website, and in the ReadMe that accompanied your Avid software.

With the appropriate upgrades you will get a dongle updater/versioner that will cure the current error message (even though it still may not work on Leopard).

If still availabe Avid had a upgrade from any version of Pro to MC 2.8 and that included a free update to MC 3 which does run on Leopard.

Are we categorically stating here that Xpress Pro won't run on Leopard? Or just that it hasn't been thoroughly road tested by AVID?

I'm running 5.8 on a Macbook Pro with OSX 10.5.1 and Quicktime 7.4, neither of which are officially supported. Everything seems to be running smoothly. However I'm travelling to the States soon for a big job and I'm relying on this system to function properly so I guess I should be upgrading to Media Composer for safetys sake....

If it does work you'll probably have problems during Capture as Avid is still trying to get firewire to work with Leopard.  That means both DV sources as well as DNA products like Mojos and Adrenalines.  Media Composer 3.0.1 was introduced to allow DNA systems to work properly with Tiger (10.4.11).

I've been using a Canopus ADVC 1000 to capture Betacam SX footage via Firewire. So far it's worked fine for both capture and Digicut. Even the timecode has been accurate.

Perhaps I've found a lucky combo of AVID software, operating system, quicktime and transcoder...
