    consolidating media changes project association?

I need to consolidate media from several projects onto an external drive for a client.  I do so by opening the media tool, selecting several projects at once, and consolidating everything to the new drive.

The problem is, it is re-associating all the media to whichever project I have open as I do this.  I never noticed it doing this before.  Is this correct?

Do I need to open every single project individually just to go the the Media Tool and consolidate the media so that it does not re-associate the project names?
