Hey fellow Avid addicts. Just installed the software only version of Media Composer on a secondary edit box that we are using for Log/Capture. There is a problem though. We have a Sony DSR45A connected via Firewire and a Sony Betacam deck routed into the DSR45A. Now the issue is that when I bring the Log/Capture window up to capture media playing on the Betacam deck, I get video but no audio. I know that it is working properly because I get both audio and video when I bring up the capture window in Premiere CS3. Am I missing something here?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Try inserting a bust tape into the DSR45 and hitting record.Using a deck as a pass through device is only possible if the deck is recording from the input signal to it.

Is this only the case with Media Composer? I am able to successfully get pass through to work with Premiere. We don't want to use Premiere.
In MC is your capture set to control deck or no deck? If you select no deck, it may record. If you have the Sony Deck selected it may be looking for a running time code or to control the deck.
Good Luck

Negative. This was across the product board as of, I want to say, 5.5.x (but could be wrong).
I CAN"T BELIEVE AVID HASN"T FIXED THIS
Do we have to go back to 5.2.4??
come on Avid

I know. and don't think we haven't been hammerin' on em. For some reason they refuse.
Ok Avid, you say you are listening.. so start listening. We want this fixed. You broke it it in x.5 so please fix it.

Whilst in some way I agree - I don't see this as a bug that need's fixing. Using a deck as a transcoder was not a feature of the software, but merely something that just happened. From a selling standpoint I could see 'removing' this as a push for folks to get the Mojo (afterall - isn't that what it's for.. transcoding analogue to digital?). But from an 'editor-on-the-street' position, especially as everyone else allows this, it was a bit of a blow that it was pulled. But when has Avid ever done what everyone else allows?
