Hi All
Just wondered if I could run this workflow past people to see what they think.
I am helping out on a project and they recently started importing rushes on a NEW different Avid. Currently on the new rushes the audio is currently running slightly faster than the picture, noticeable at around 2 minutes, about 3 frames fast or so.
When I Untick the Middle Audio Import Box below and re-batch import the clip, it’s then in sync with exactly the same picture. No re-sync clip required. I presume then that I need to keep this box unticked and then re-batch import the sound rushes again
Is the re-batch import safe to do? It worked on an original sync clip
Is this workflow actually correct? I thought audio needs to be recorded at 30 NDF
Is this safe then to proceed for the rest of the post workflow?
Shooting rate: 24fps
Sound Recording: 29.97 NDF at 48.048 khz - BWF
Telecine: MOS at 23.976 to HD
Avid Project: 1080p/23.976 (3 perf)/ 48khz
Audio Import Settings: All 3 boxes ticked – SR conversion
SR conversion w/pull-up/pull-down ?????
Bit Rate conversion
Many thanks

The recommended practice for 24.000fps shooting on set would be to record audio at 30fps/48.048kHz for a 23.976 post. That way both get slowed down .1% to create 29.97/48kHz to be in sync with the now 23.976 picture.
Pull up or pull down deals with the .1% issue when it sees a sample rate other than 48kHz in the header of the BWF file. See http://www.24p.com/AvidInsider2.htm for tools to deal with that if the import settings do not work for you.
It is safe to rebatch import as you are doing.
Michael
Hi Michael
Many, many thanks for that.
So if we are proceeding and still recording sound at 29.97 NDF (not correct- we know) as per workflow above and then unticking the middle audio SR conversion w/pullup,pulldown to import; and files run in sync; and we have done HDcam playout and hd/qt at 23.976 with omf all in sync, then are we ok? Or are there further implications for our sound editors. Do we need to do a 24fps Qucktime/playout test?
Many thanks again.
