    MXF file work around

Understand that the 720p 29.97 MXF files don't directly work on the DS Nitris, but is there another work around that someone has designed?

I could get it onto a Composer and get quicktimes out and then go to the DS, but maybe there is another way, keeping the timecode, etc.

    Re: MXF file work around

I'm not familiar with the format limitations on the DS, so if this isn't helpful, then please disregard. If the issue is that the DS doesn't like 720p footage, then perhaps you could try a tool like MXFX from DVFilm.com and convert the footage to 1080p. The software will also remove pulldown, if you have any need to get to a 23.976 format.

Like I said, it's a shot in the dark.

    Re: MXF file work around

I am assuming you are referring to P2 material... which it is true that you can't just drag MXF files off a P2 card/store and immediately use them in DS.

However, if you have a Composer, you can use it to do what you need:

    1. Import the P2 into a bin as normal - you can edit it in MC too if you like
    2. Export your bin/sequence as an AFE
    3. Create an MXF storage area in DS (see manual - beyond the scope of explanation here)
    4. Copy the MXF files into the DS's MXF storage area
    5. Import the AFE into DS

The media should link up with the imported clips/sequence and retain timecode.  Note that this requires DS v8 as older versions didn't support the DVCPROHD codec.

The DS user guide contains information on configuring an MXF storage area.

    Re: MXF file work around

Thanks for the great workaround. Now need to upgrade DS 7.6 to 8.
