VideoRAID ST/SR and MediaNetwork on a TourBus

How would these storage devices fair being mounted in racks or on the floor on a tour bus while driving down the street? Are they actual spinning disc drives or? We have a drive from NJ down to Florida and I was hoping to edit the material we had shot in NJ on the way down.

Personally, i dont think it would be wise to have a videoraid, or unity system operating while in motion.  Yes, they are spinning disks, and we all know what happens when the head takes a dive into the platter.  If i were you id check with a company like AMV, All Mobile VIdeo.  They specialize in mobile productions trucks.

Look at me, sounds like a little ad pitch:)

Our whole reason to using a tour bus is because we're transporting cast and equipment in one vehicle, so I'd rather not use another truck. When will Avid ever release Solid State Harddrives?

As soon as their customers can afford them.

I don't know what to do if we can't edit on the road though... It'll put us behind by a week or more in post.

Could we save everything to unity when we shoot, then move that to local Solid State Drives, and then once we arrive in Florida we resave the project files onto the unity? Seeing as how the media is already on the unity... the only thing changing would be any work we've done cutting those clips together. We should just be able to change the location we save our project to right?

I check with our rental people and thay sware by Hardigg cases.

If you want something more affordable, consider editing on laptops while in transit.

Thanks for the suggestion I'll look into that.

I think Avid is working on a storage solution that would allow customer to edit while on a submarine but not a tour bus.  :)
