Has anyone figured out a way to get a Dell 755 computer to talk well with a Unity LANshare?
The background is a sad story, but I'll keep it short as I can.
We set out to build an encoding station on which to turn edited projects into DVDs, Quicktime, Real, Flash, etc. QT Reference files would be created on edit stations and saved to the Unity LANshare. The encode station would connect to the Unity, pickup those QT Refs, and using the raw media files do the needed encodes.
After consulting with Avid Support I did the specs for an HP machine. BUT our university is a Dell campus so Purchasing looked at my specs, found a Dell with exactly the same specs, and bought it.
Unfortunately, that Dell and the Unity don't get along. They connect, but the connection speed is VERY slow.
Avid Support doesn't have any info on the 755 and can't help. One fellow their suggested that if one of the PCI slots doesn't share its buss with anything else we might successfully put a supported card in that slot. Unfortunately, both slots share their buss' with something else.
I'm at a loss.
So back to the question... has anybody managed to create a usable connection between a Dell 755 and an Avid Unity LANshare?
Thanks, JP
Sorry man, this is why Avid uses workstations that have dual bus's. One for a mojo / camera, and the other for the unity connection.

I assume you are trying to connect this via Ethernet?
If yes, check your Unity ethernet switch. It will indicate to you how fast is the actual connection (via color of the LED lights).
What OS do you have installed? What version of File Manager and Connection Manager?

How would someone get any client connected to Unity with an unsupported fiber or ethernet card?
I would think you must have a supported card to connect.
ACSR
Media Composer, Symphony, DS, Unity
With FC you NEED to use supported cards. Wrong config can cause corrupt data. For ethernet, Unity is a lot more forgiving. You can pretty much use any gigabit ethernet card.
