Can someone clarify for me please exactly what Avid's New 1080p/29.97 format is?
1) Is this the match to Panasonic's 1080/29.97p (over 59.94i) (DVCProHD) or 1080/29.97p (native)(AVC-Intra)?
2) Do either of the above utilize Panasonic's in camera telecine transfer from a 24p image to an NTSC rate?
Why is it so difficult to extract clear information from both Avid and Panasonic as to what exactly it is they are giving us?
So my new wife asks me about my "Avid Forever" tattoo... I told her she's an old girlfriend who was always coming up with new things for me to try...
It for formats that are native 1080p/29.97 and not embedded within another format such as 1080i. So in your example the latter.
Michael
Thanks for the reply Michael.
You said formats... not format... does that imply that this release will support both of the native AVC-Intra codecs: 1080/29.97(n) and 1080/29.98(n)?
It would be difficult to belive that Avid would choose to support only 1080/29.97(n) as its first choice as its really 30p and utilized the least, where as 1080/29.98(n) would be highly desireable for its filmic cadence.

Formats, frame rates, rasters, bit depth, arrrghhh.
Yes. Avid already supports a 1080p/23.976 project type so AVC-I at that native frame rate will work with v3. 1080p/29.97 is a new project type to support the other format.
OK... to be perfectly clear then...
Avid is not supporting 1080/29.98(n) AVC-Intra in version 3.0?
I am not sure what 1080/29.98(n) is... .1% of 30 is 29.97.
The .98 is a rounding up of .976 which is what is associated with 24*(1000/1001).
Or are you referring to 23.976 material embedded in a 1080i/59.94 stream?
Glad to see this is not just confusing to me!
Here is what I have been given for information by Panasonic (an excerpt from page 8 of their product brochure .pdf found here: http://catalog2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ModelDetail?storeId=11201&catalogId=13051&itemId=116556&catGroupId=14569&surfModel=AJ-HPX3000&displayTab=O

Panasonic's product information is separating the 29.97 and 29.98... So I need to clarify if Avid is including support for both or soley 29.97.
Thanks Michael.
