I know there have been a few threads covering VERY similar issues, and I have tried to resolve mine with the steps suggested, to no result.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
System:
- Windows Visa Ultimate (2gig DDR, Intel core solo 1.33 GHz, onboard graphics memory 256mb)
- QuickTime V7.4.5
- Avid Media Composer 2.8
- Camera: Casio Exilim Ex-F1
issue 1: Windows Visa Ultimate > how do i change my power settings to "Awlays on" in my control panel > power settings - there doesn't seem to be anywhere to set a power scheme of "always on" as suggested by Avid on startup.
issue 2: my camera records at 1080i 60fps on SDHC cards and internal 4gb memory. I made a new project using the preset: 1080i hdv 59.9 - when i try to import the .mov files straight from my HDD (copied from camera to computer) i get this string of events:
usually about 17%:
this error pops up:
download: Exception_2008.05.26_15.39.48 <-- there
once closed, followed by:
I have gone into quicktime > edit >preferences > quick time preferences > advanced - and selected "Safe Mode (GDI only)" opposed to the Direct X option.
I would really appreciate any feedback or links to other similar threads. Thanks in advance
The problem could be that the format that camera is recording to isn't HDV.
Did you tried to create a full HD 1920x1080 sequence?

thanks for the quick response!
I did a trial and error with every preset (in the avid new project selection drop-down menu) from [1080i hdv 59.9] - [720p 59.9]
and had the same result.

i'm not sure how to change the sequence resolution (sorry im a big noob), but "full HD 1920x1080" is what the camera records at, so that is one step in the right direction.
here is a sample file (5.17 mb) straight from the camera:
I meant project resolution.
At the drop down menu what is your options?

This one should do Eric.
Otherwise maybe the format of the camera isn't supported.
Eric, I hope you realize that Media Composer 2.8 is not Vista supported...only certified for Windows XP Pro, SP 2, 32 bit. Media Composer 3.0 (approximate release date - June) will be Vista supported.

That is a good catch also.

it's curious that when i switch the camera to "standard def" and record, Avid will allow me to edit THAT footage, but as soon as i try to import the high def ones it gives this error...
could it be the compression the camera is using?

crap! reformating into XP might be my best option then? is it likely that this is the issue?
Highly likely, I would have thought. And even when 3.0 is released I believe that it will require Vista Business.
I thing that the format is the best option but you don't loose anything to try XP again.
You will loose only your sleep. But if you want to edit on a PC you probably WILL.
I have spent many sleepless nights for some things.

Business 64bit? It sound good and cheap.
Eric, I think for now, the wisest thing you could do is to roll back to Windows XP Pro which is the only OS that Media Composer is currently certified for and go from there. Even when 3.0 is released, it will not require Vista, it will be supported for Vista but will still run on XP Pro.
Indeed, running the wrong OS could be the core of most, if not all of your problems.

Yes, sorry Larry. A little hasty there. I should have said that MC3's Vista support required Vista Business. It will of course also run on XP Pro SP2 or better.

Alright, im up and running on Windows XP pro SP3, and i still get the same error trying to import... any other ideas?

XP was a welcomed change, lol.
Anyway, Thanks for all the help thus far (everyone)!
