Yeah, but I already said that I am about to buy one, I just need a quick fix for now, but there seem to be non so...
I was wondering about this card, because I do not seem to find an "audigy 2" card anywhere. Will this work? Fix the problem?

Glans,
What I have learned from all those years in NLE's is that you can't be sure 100% for nothing as in PC's. I ma not aware about Macs though.
Giving some money to work with MC isn't spending, is testing.
If the upgrade was on and I could have MC3 to test it myself I could have helped you.
When I was seting up Liquid for the first time and even later on, not always things went right.
I mean there were some times that certain parts worked fine while others the same parts weren't because I installed some codecs or programs I shouldn't have.
I don't now about MC3 but as for Liquid you have to have your system the cleanest possible.
What is exactly that isn't working with the on board?
You don't get any sound?
Because if you can open MC just fine and work with it BUT there is no sound, then something else could have happened.
Do you see audio at the peak meter?

I get the avid world famous "Failure to intitialize audio hardware" and then MC shuts down. If I turn my card off I can open MC and if I deselect the audiotracks I can playback the video. But I can't do anything with the sound at the moment. MC just doesn't like my onboard card.
Avid Xpress PRO liked it though and that's what puzzles me. Never had the problem with any Xpress version.
Can you try this.
Right click on the audio icon at the notification area and choose adjust audio properties.
Check the box I am showing you and see if this helps.
Nope, I need another soundcard for that... I see that you use a X-Fi card. Do you know if the one I linked earlier will work with avid? I mean, will most Creative Soundblaster cards work with avid or is there anyone to avoid?
X-Fi works great with Liquid but I am not sure about the same with MC and Vista.
Soundblaster has its own problems with Vista.
X-Fi is a lot more expensive than Audigy SE.
Where you live, isn't there any store to give you the Audigy or another card to test,
or to buy it with the deal to exchange it for something else if it won't work?
I have done this some times with external e-SATA discs till I found out that only an internal in an external case worked with JMicron. Another sad story which I had to find out myself as usual.
I need to order my card, but I may be able to order with the ability to return if it doesn't work. And I don't have Vista so I don't have to worry about that.
What I do find odd is that I cannot find any online stores that sell Audigy 2 cards, which is weird. I can only find "audigy 2 NX" that is used for laptops.
So, I've found the Audigy SE card but I don't know if it's going to help me.... I'm waiting for answers to that here; maybe if someone else owns it :)
Glans:I've found the Audigy SE card but I don't know if it's going to help me....
Hi,
I've seen a few posts (at least 2 or 3) from people who got Audigy SE cards and that solved the problem, so I'd say it is worth a try.
good luck,Carl
There is no such thing as a video emergency. My Demo Website
Imagine me buying the upgrade for MC and X-Fi not working on it.
I will have another worry over the VGA I have now [:'(].
Bottom line... is there a big chance that whatever soundblaster card I get, it's better then realtek (when it comes to this issue, not becuase the quality of the sound is better, which it's going to get)
I'm about to push the "buy" button... :/
I just realized that my realtek card is a pretty good one and it's not an onboard card. It's a shame that I must loose a PCI place when I raelly got a good soundcard. My realtek card is better then an audigy 2 card... so, what the hell?
Why the hell doesn't Avid just fix this issue? Most people have realtek!
Glans and others do this.
Change the input to digital if you have an option.
See if this takes the trouble away.
I bought a Soundblaster Audigy SE card and now I can start Avid.
BUT BUT BUT!
I can't play directsound sounds and that has screwed up my system. In Avid I also can't play audio even though it doesn't shut down. Avid is playing through directsound. After some searching I found one webpage that says that this card doesn't support directsound.
Now, I'm getting a little furious here. The noiselevel is really high, while on my so called on board card I didn't hear any noise at all.
I have gone and buy a soundcard that is supposed to imporve my sound but I'm getting something worse then my onboard card...
How do I fix the directsound issue? Or should I threat Avid until they support realtek???
Sorry to speak harsh but this thing is ******** unbelievable. How do I play directsound sounds now?
First, edit your post to remove the offensive language in it, as it violates the forum Terms of Use.
Glans:I can't play directsound sounds and that has screwed up my system.
What are you trying to play directsound sounds from?
Glans:I'm getting a little furious here.
I get that, but don't take your frustration out on us. Everyone here is a user just like you. If you want to complain to Avid directly, I'd start with Marianna Montague (Marianna_Montague@avid.com), who is Avid's customer advocate.
I'm not furious at you... as you can read, I'm furious at Avid. Do they even read the forums? Are they aware of frustrations from user?
Still, I cannot get this to work. I bought a new card and now I'm able to start MC, but there are no soundbars or sound coming out of the system. I have changed to every possible option on the sound card configuration in MC but still nothing happens. I have also a problem with some video files not playing audio in media player, or stutter when waveoutput is choosen.
I'm so sick of errors... I can't work, I can't continue my project. Everything was fine with Xpress PRO. My on board soundcard was perfect and everything went smooth. Using MC is far from smooth. MC should be the little brother of Xpress PRO, not the other way around.
How do I get this thing to work once and for all??
