Hi, I have a client that is asking me to conform and online a show shot in XDCAM that he has offlined in a FCP, and I have some soubts about the workflow to folow.
He told me that he has edited using DVCam Dubs from XDCAM discs. Is it possible to layout to a dv tape from XDCAM discs frame accurate?
If he send me an EDL, will Avid relink to original MXFs from XDCAM?
TIA, Agustin

Hi,
Assuming I'm reading this right, if the EDL is accurate and the DVCam dubs are accurate, then you shouldn't have any problems. After importing the EDL you'd just have to batch capture the XDCAM material.
I'm confused by "will Avid relink to original MXFs from XDCAM?" If he's on FCP and you're on Media Composer, how is he getting you MXFs?
good luck,Carl
There is no such thing as a video emergency. My Demo Website

As I don´t have an xdcam deck, I´ll transfer all xdcam discs to an external drive in another facility and import into avid.
Is that the right way?
thanks, agustin
The right way to ingest XDCAM HD would be to rent a deck, and auto conform the EDL from FCP. By far the fastest way for your purpose.

Haven't worked with an XDCAM yet.
Do I Have to capture via HD-SDI input, or the deck is connected via firewire?

Sometime in the next few weeks is will also operate like an external harddrive for archiving any computer file.
Will Batch Import work with a sequence that was originated as a tape-based sequence to start with? It certainly didn't the last time I did an XDCAM job (which was more than a year ago).
The workflow for file-based XDCAM conform used to require that the offline had been created file-based as well (so that the clips were recognised as being imported rather than captured media).

My opinions are my own.

mmmmm, that's no good news!
So is there any workaround to conform without an HD-SDI input?
thanks for your replies,

I'm only reporting my earlier memory of XDCAM workflow, I haven't used XDCAM for about 18 months, so it possible that things have changed since then. Or there might be a simple work around.
Thanks again Pycophant!
Can anyone confim if it's possible to copy XDCAM disc mpeg 50 mbps files to and external Drive and then import into Avid MC
Thanks!
