    Post Production Scriptwriting

At the end of a long and very complex documentary edit, our hard-working PA has to write a postpro script, noting every shot and every TC.

I'd like to produce an tab-delimited EDL for her with an event number, master TC in, master TC out, source tapename and clip name that can be imported into a word document.

None of the EDL templates I've looked at is really suitable (eg CMX puts clip names on a separate line).

So, is there any way I can create my own EDL template? I can do the work on my MC 2.8 or on my Meredien MC v12.

If anyone knows a solution, it'd be great to hear from you (Erin'll be very happy too).

     Hi Rodney,

This is off the top of my head, so it's entirely possible it won't work at all, but I can't bear the thought of Erin having to type all that stuff by hand.

What if you put the finished sequence in a bin by itself and selected Show Reference Clips.  Then show the columns for tape name and clip name and master TC in and out and sort the clips by master TC in, and that might give you a list of the clips in the sequence in the order they appear.  Then you might be able to export the bin and import the information into Word.

That's a lot of "might" there, I know.

    good luck,
    Carl

    Hi Carl

thanks for your prompt reply. I tried the suggested method - only problem is that I can't find any way to show the "Master TC". I went through the headings/bin column selection window and saw nothing that might be appropriate. Am I missing something?

    Hi Rodney,

No, unfortunately I don't think you are.  I thought there was a Master TC column, but there's obviously not.

I just also tried running through some EDL options, and also couldn't get the clip name on the same line as the rest.  I'm sorry I don't have better news for you.

    good luck,
    Carl
