    anybody knows about this error????

An error occured while reading the Project Indexer's state file "C:\Program Files\Avid\Services\DSSystem\ummd_consumers". It will continue with as much information as possible. This can affect the purge command's ability to find all uses of media resulting in too much media being purged.

it's happening on my ds 8.4 all information its about ds 7.6 anybody can help me?

Here’s an except from Sylvain Labrosse from DS Support ...

It is very possible that your index table is corrupted and causing the Project Indexer to fail loading it.

Try to first stop the Avid Project Indexer in the Computer Management > Services and Applications > Services list.

    Browse to C:\Program Files\Avid\Services\DSSystem.

Delete the ummd_consumers file (don't touch the other files).

    Restart the workstation.

Open Task Manager > Processes and check the Consumermgrs.exe CPU count.  When it reaches 00, the indexing is complete and you can start Avid DS.

Re: anybody knows about this error????

I would like to add that the 7.6 information also applies to 8.4.

I would also bring your attention to the fact that you might very well keep too many projects in your active Project Root.

Not only does that forces the Avid Project Indexer to scan and keep potentially unnecessary data in the RAM but it raise the risk of corrupting the ummd-consumers file when you reboot or shut down the workstation.

Why?  Because Windows only allow a limited time for any running services to stop.  The issue here is that the Avid Project Indexer may take some time to cleanly save its ummd_consumers file.

Why does Windows not wait?  Because Windows just don't and ends all running services when it reaches its allocated time and stops.  Nice hunh?

So you have a few choices:

    • Manually stop the Avid Project Indexer and wait until it is fully stopped (its ummd-consumers thus fully saved) then you can safely reboot or shut down Windows.
    • Clean your Project Root of projects that you don't need anymore.
    • Use DS Project Manager to temporarily push unused projects OUT of the active Project Root.  You can bring back projects that you need at any time.

    Sylvain,

You may want to ask for some help from Tewksbury, specifically from the Unity team.

They got around this OS limitation long time ago and they are able to intercept and delay Windows shut down sequence until File manager safely saves all the metadata and indexing information. After which, it reports back to the user and allows the shut down.

    cheers,
