Hi everyone... I was hoping for a tip here..

I've got just about 100 separate folders on my computer organized by different names with only images inside them.

The images have been prepared for import into Avid to use as stills.

Is there a way to bring a folder (or multiple folders) of images into Avid and have it create a bin with that folder name and then import all the images into that bin?

That sure would save me a ton of time.  I need to keep the images organized in Avid because the names aren't descriptive at all.  The folders have anywhere from 1 to 15 images each in them.  The process of creating the bins and dragging the images in has been slow because I have to wait for each mini batch of imports to finish before I can drag the next batch in.

Any ideas?  (I'd imagine a script would do something like this?  But I know nothing of writting apple script.)

I'm pretty sure FCP does  this.  When I worked for a reseller, we did an Avid demo, and the prospectrive client had the exact same scenario.  Once they told us they needed this, the demo was over.  FCP also doesn't create duplicate media, but links to the original sources.

Thanks Randall, but I'm already down the road with the Avid, so FCP isn't an option right now.

I can't think of any way to get this many organized folders of images into Avid and keep any semblance of organization.

Just futzing around, I brought the folders into FCP on another system... They go straight in, instantly with the named folder.  You can put the images into the timeline and they retain their resolution, so no prepping of the original images even seems necessary.

In this one respect, FCP seems lightyears ahead of Avid.  Avid Pan & Zoom is cool, but it takes quite a lot of clicks to get their and doesn't seem to look as good in real-time.

...unless there's an Avid feature I don't know about.

I will be moving from AXP 5.8 to Media Composer in a few hours.
