    QT Pro upgrade question

We're finally about to be upgraded through our corporate Avid support to 2.8.1, I believe. Of course, it will arrive here with the appropriate version of Quicktime, which is not the latest version.

Is it possible to purchase Quicktime Pro for your current version (7.1 or 7.2 or whichever it is), avoiding the screwups that come with a full Quicktime 7.3 or 7.4 upgrade?

MCA 2.8.3 on Dell 490 • 4GB Ram • Quadro FX3500 Driver 6.14.10.9185 • Avid rs146 x 2 striped as one • 2 internal 500 GB SATA drives. Edit monitor: Sony... [view my complete system specs]

The Quicktime Pro key works with all flavors of Quicktime 7.  You won't have to pay for Pro again until Quicktime 8 is released (and supported).

    Re: QT Pro upgrade question

Thanks Kevin. I want to make sure I understand correctly. If I purchase QT Pro for the version that comes with our MC 2.8.1 install, it will not upgrade or alter the numeric version of QT we are running?

    Re: QT Pro upgrade question

That is correct.  Just launch Quicktime and select Registration.  Enter the code you'll receive when you purchase QT Pro, and your version will automatically switch to Pro, but will be the same version number you were at.

You are just unlocking functionality, you are not upgrading the software.
