The DC Avid user group was founded in November of 2005 with Bruce Dixon at the helm. Bruce is Vice President and Chief Technology Officer for EFX Media. EFX Media has been providing world-class communications programs to the Washington-area for 23 years. A full-service marketing and media company, EFX Media delivers effective communications solutions that are on target and in sync with their clients’ business objectives.Bruce designed and integrated EFX Media’s state-of-the art technical facility from the ground up. The facility—which includes traditional and non-linear editing suites, an extensive computer graphics and animation department and all the latest media tools—is considered one of the finest in the Washington area. In addition, Bruce is renowned for his technical editing skills. He provides pre-edit creative and technical consultation and helps ensure that they deliver the highest quality sound and picture you can imagine.
Penny Lee is also a founder of the DC user group and works closely with Bruce to ensure the group’s success. Penny is a highly respected editor with more than 20 years editing experience. She owns her own freelance editing company, Lee Video. Her clients have included PBS, National Geographic Television, and Discovery Communications. Among her many credits are the Emmy Award-winning National Geographic Channel series Inside Base Camp and Against the Odds: The Next Generation, a PBS documentary that earned the Aurora Film and Video Gold Award and the Communicator Award of Excellence. Lee is well known in the local industry for her skill, creativity, and can-do spirit.
Penny specializes on the AVID Media Composer, Symphony, Adrenaline and Avid Express Pro systems. Production expertise include feature documentaries, commercials, promotion advertisements, and reality TV series for corporate and government agencies. In the past couple of years, she has completed several new programming series for HGTV, TLC, and Discovery Channel.
Penny is also an active member of her community. In addition, she is also a member of Woman in Film & Video, DC Chapter, since 1996 and has served on the Board of Directors from 1997-2000, where she held the position of Vice President of Programming. She rejoined WIFV in 2004-2005 as Executive Vice President of Programming and Membership. As part of her giving back to the community, she launched the first WIFV Media Job Fair and the annual Resume Swap workshops as well as volunteering for the Image Makers Program serving not only as the chair and mentor, but as instructor for editing portion in the program. Penny also chaired and organized several professional development seminars that WIFV sponsored including: “The Job of Finding a Job” (2000), “What's the Deal with the Demo Reel?” (1998) “The Art of the Pitch”, (1998) Fundraiser Program: “Hitting the Right Chord” (2003) and many more.
