OK,
Out of the blue, out of nowhere I'm having Ingesting issues...for 8 months, things have been flawless...now, when I try to import video from my Sony HVR-ZIU directly to my Dell Precision M90 with a Firewire (1394), the video is coming in out of proportion. I shoot auto racing for a living, and the cars are being scrunched up very badly, the faces in the interviews are being stretched out....
Where do I go to change my ingest settings? I can't seem to figure it out, and am just stumped at this point...The video is still being read fine, and I can ingest no issue at all...it's just something with AVID that the video is scrunched, etc...
I need help as soon as I can get it...
Thanks in advance!!!!
Should have said before...AVID Express Pro....

Hi,
When something just stops working out of the blue, look for something that has changed recently, or for corrupt settings.
So have you added any hardware or software recently? Even something small like a webcam? What about Windows automatic updates to your video card driver?
If not, try creating a new Avid user and see if the problem is still there. If that doesn't work, try a new project. Exit Avid and delete any MCState files on the system and let it rebuild them when you restart.
If none of that gets it working, when you come back, let us know your system specifications.
good luck,Carl
There is no such thing as a video emergency. My Demo Website
Carl,
I've tried to add my system specifications frequently.....but when I click on my name at the top of this page, it takes me to a non-working web page that says "Page can not be found"
Regarding my situation...a few things pop up as potential problems...
1) I recently sent my camera (Sony HVR-Z1U) to a company to have it cleaned...this was the first time using my camera since getting it back....
2) I purchased the Sony GV-HD700 deck and have been trying to use that to import video...
For whatever reason...no matter which I use to capture video right now...the HVR-Z1U, or the GV-HD700, I'm having the same issue...the video capturing is distorted slightly...the race cars that I shoot are getting scrunched, and the faces in the interviews are smushed as well....
It doesn't appear that the company that cleaned my camera changed any settings....and obviously since the deck and camera are both encountering the same issue upon import, something in AVID/my computer is wrong....I don't know of any updates, etc....
I'll take a stab at my system specs here...
1) Windows XP
2) AVID Express Pro version 5.7
3) QuickTime version 7.0.2
4) Dell Precision M90, Core 2 Duo Process, T7200. 2 GB DDR-2667 SDRAM, 2 DIMM for the M90. 1500M 256 MB Open GL. 160 GB Hard Drive 9.5 MM 5400 RPM.
5) NVIDIA Quadro FX
6) 1500M
Is there an import setting somewhere on AVID that I can change? Thanks again in advance...
What about this?
camoscato:try creating a new Avid user and see if the problem is still there. If that doesn't work, try a new project. Exit Avid and delete any MCState files on the system and let it rebuild them when you restart.
Although it may not be related to your current problem, according to the Version Matrix, you should be running Quicktime 7.1.3 with Xpress Pro 5.7.
What happens if you try importing a tape (that worked) from before the servicing?
I would also check the Sony settings (both Deck and Camera) where there are default outputs that affect the picture geometry.
Thanks for giving me some help....regarding the MCState files, etc....forgive me for asking, but how do I do that? I'll update to the latest version of Quick Time as well...
Regarding the other suggestions, I don't currently have a tape (one that worked before) to try right now, but will tomorrow....
Regarding my camera....on Sony HVR-Z1U...there's a "Down Convert" option....the three choices are
1) Squeeze
2) Letter Box (I know I don't want this one)
3) Edge Crop
When I choose Edge Crop, the images are no longer distored/scrunched, etc upon capturing them...what I can't remember for the life of me is....I COULD HAVE SWORE...that Squeeze was the setting I wanted...
If anyone could help me with the above things....that would be great...
DirtonDirt.com:regarding the MCState files, etc....forgive me for asking, but how do I do that?
Exit Xpress Pro and search your hard drive for files named MCState, which is a settings file that sometimes gets corrupted and causes weird problems.
Delete any MCState files that you find, and then relaunch XPress Pro. It will create a new MCState file automatically. If this clears up your problem, then the old one was corrupt. If it doesn't, at least we know that's not what's causing the problem.
Also guys...
tried the new project, and that didn't work.....on another issue....this whole thing started when I purchased the Sony GV-HD700 deck to use to capture video....
When I tried to use that....it gave me this problem where the video was scrunched, etc.....so I changed back to my camera (Sony HVR-Z1U) that had worked forever...and I'm having the same problem with that...
I'd REALLY REALLY like to get the GV-HD700 to work...and I'm not sure why it's doing that upon ingest...any help would be SUPER SUPER SUPER appreciated...
Thanks again...
DirtonDirt.com:tried the new project, and that didn't work
Did you try a new user in Avid?
How do I do that....create a new user that is?
Also,
Deleted the MCState files...and that didn't work either...
Just passing that along....
When you start Xpress Pro and you get to the Select a Project box, there's a drop-down menu where you select what user profile you'd like to use. Click on it, and select Create New User. Open a project with the new user profile selected and see if the problem is still there.
Guys,
Thanks for the responses...here's a recap of what HAS NOT WORKED so far...
1) New User Profile
2) New Project
3) Deleting the MCState files
I've tried those things and they don't work....I guess my thing is...what it comes down to...does anyone know how to/or has used the Sony GV-HD700 Deck....it came highly recommended, and after talking to AVID on the phone, they said this would work fine with my version of AVID Express Pro, etc....
AVID on my computer recognizes the deck...and has no problem capturing the video, it just does so in a squished fasion...like I said, I shoot racing...and the cars are squished up and look terrible...
On the GV-HD700, there is an option called TV-Type...which is equivalent to my "Down Convert" option on my camera....It's set on 4:3, but I'm still having no luck...
Thanks again for anything else you can do for me...
A few other things to mention...when I plugged the deck in, obviously my PC said, "Found hew hardware...hardware installed"...
Did this affect my drivers/video card/any of that?...and how on Earth do I go about fixing that if that's the case...
