    help with buying new RAM

Need to buy another 1GB RAM to increase from 2GB to 3GB in my Dell Precision 670.

Currently have RAM labelled as follows:

    Infineon

    HYS72T64000HR-5-A

    PC2-3200R-333-11-A0

    DDR2 400 CL3Reg

I've been advised to get a pair of 512MB sticks rather than 1 x 1GB stick.

Could anyone advise on what I can get that will match with what I have?  I don't really know which bits of the above info are relevant to choosing compatible RAM.

In terms of suppliers I'm London UK-based.

    Many thanks!!

    Hi,

I've always had good dealings with Crucial.  They've got some good search tools for figuring out what you need.

    good luck,

    I'd also suggest mrmemory

Prices are competetive with crucial and they have a similar tool for identifying the correct ram for your machine.

I always check both these sites when buying ram and go with whichever one is (marginally) cheaper at the time.

Check your computer manual but often the system requires that you add memory in pairs. I added 2 X 512Mb  as opposed to one 1Gb stick for this reason to bring my system up to 3Gb. Remember to run the 3Gb exe file in avid utilities afterwards.

.- Must be ECC unbuffered and it has to be in pairs (DDR is normally Dual Channel, unless you have only one stick in the computer)

Viking, Corsair, PNY, Infineon, PQI. they are all good.

Viking has the best support I've ever seen in my life.

If the memory is bad, they pay for all the shipping costs, yours and theirs (FedEx Express). I know that first hand.
