Hi,
A client has been shooting P2 1080/50i and has copied many days worth of footage onto a hard drive, each day organised into it's own folder. I can easily mount and correctly import clips and then media from each days folder into our PC Media Composer 2.7.2. The problem is the Avid wants to repeatedly scan each days folder after the virtual drive has been mounted, so for example after doing 3 days worth of footage the Avid is scanning 3 P2 virtual drives. I have tried unmounting the virtual drives in the software but the folders are still getting scanned.
If I restart the software the Avid forgets all the virtual drives and so the problem is solved but this is a slow solution, does anyone know a way of forcing the Avid to forget a virtual drive?
Thanks
Chris
2 suggestions. Right now it sounds like its trying to read off the virtual P2s. Get them to your local media and you probably wont have this problem.
Im not in front of my Avid right now but you import the file, then import the media to your local video drive. Have you consolidated your media? The second suggestion is consolidate. Choose the clips on your Virtual P2, then CONSOLIDATE them to the same (or different) local video drive. It may take a few minutes, but will be more responsive on your scsi drives.
Importing the P2 media (File > Import P2 > Media) will consolidate the P2 media into Avid media for you and should solve your problem. But you have to allow for the space and time time needed to consolidate that media.

dak...you've posted this in three threads now. Please check my reply before posting it again. You are just using the wrong workflow.

You're also using older software, and the P2 workflow continues to improve with each passing version, so you might want to try upgrading to the latest, or at leats 2.8.
